is there any update here? ive been dealing with this for months with no help and im on the verge of switching to apple music
Any fixes with this yet...Like REAL fixes as in an update to your software that we're paying for.
I have tried all the fixes you suggest throughout the site. Clearing Cache, offloading the app, removing app from iPhone storage i.e. Clean install...worked for like a day....then it started back up again. Tried logging out of my account and logging in with a different account...it still crashes after about 50-60 seconds once it's running in the background like it did before.
I've even tried downloading audio from it for offline listening, and it still crashes.
I didn't have this problem until I updated to the latest Spotify which is 8.9.86.419 (currently on 10/31/24) - it's a real nuisance to have to deal with this, especially when I'm driving around for work trying to listen to music in the background.
It only works correctly on my macbook. pls fix your software that people are paying for.......
hey i would really appreciate an update here. is there any way to set up a phone call with a support agent directly? I've tried everything and nothing works. its all becoming very frustrating
Hey folks,
Thank you for keeping in contact and sorry for the late response.
We appreciate all the info you've shared so far. In order to continue investigating this internally, @bentindall, would you mind checking on a different device, using its mobile data and your own account to see if it makes any difference?
Also, @thefairweather could you confirm if this happens with mobile data/Wi-Fi or both? Could you also check if your device overheats too as mentioned previously?
Lastly, and if possible; could any of you record a short video where we can take a better look? You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).
We'll be on the lookout.
Hello, I’ve had the same issue. I’ve followed the steps to delete and reinstall the app many times, but it still doesn’t work. iOS 18.1, Spotify 8.9.86.419. I even deleted my account and reactivated it, and it still doesn’t work.
Thanks for the details everyone!
Our tech folks are currently investigating this. We'll keep you posted here as soon as we have any news to share, stay tuned 👍
In the meantime, make sure you're always running the latest version of Spotify so you don't miss out on any updates.
Cheers!

My Question or Issue
Over the last couple of days, Spotify had been absolutely chewing through the battery on my phone and heating it up. With Spotify in the background while my phone is off it used about 30% of my phones battery in 3 hours and my phone is noticeably warm to the touch.
Hi, for some reason it stopped for me. I cannot say what it was, but thankfully I no longer have the problem anymore.
Hi, @OscarDC Confirming it happens if i'm on wi-fi or data. Device DOES NOT overheat or notify that it is overheating. Only way to keep spotify from crashing is if the app stays open ON SCREEN at all times. If I multi-task like switching to apple maps or another app, after about 50 secs of switching over it will crash. Same for when the phone goes to sleep.
I've attached 2 youtube video links showing what happens, one on data and one on wifi. The videos are too large to attach here since your limit is 5mb.

Spotify Crash On wifi: https://youtube.com/shorts/L86urzmgUws
I will add, the phone does feel hot to the touch when I use spotify...even for a the short time before it crashes. Obviously feels/gets hotter if I allow it to stay open without navigating from the screen.
I'm on the latest iOS with the latest version that just dropped Today, v. 8.9.90.84
The app eventually crashes after like 40 50 seconds or a minute , everytime i play a song , while only in background , also this is happening in my ipad too in same account, can you please help me with this , its so irritating and mood killer. Also i have the latest version as of today.

hi, my problem is that anytime i wanna listen to my playlist “favorites” spotify breaks down after half a minute. so when i press shuffle and the music starts the app closes after 30 to 45 seconds. i restarted my phone and installed the app three times again but nothing helps. my phone can’t be the problem because it is the new iphone 15 pro and when i got the phone everything worked perfectly. but since two months i can’t listen to the playlist. every other playlist works besides the “favorites”.
hopefully someone has the same problem an could help me!
thank u!!
Hey! That sounds super frustrating, especially since everything else works fine on your new iPhone 15 Pro. Since it only happens with your "Favorites" playlist, it could be a specific issue with that playlist’s data. You might try creating a new playlist and adding your favorite songs again, just to see if that sidesteps the issue. Also, clearing the cache in Spotify settings or ensuring you’re on the latest app version can sometimes help with glitches like this. Fingers crossed one of these fixes does the trick, and you’re back to enjoying your playlist soon!
Been having the same issue on my iPhone 11 iOS 17 for the last month and in the same boat. Have done everything mentioned in this thread and nothing has worked. Gonna have to switch to Apple Music if this doesn’t get resolved soon.
Hey there @Justmike47,
Thanks for posting here and welcome.
Since you mentioned you've tried some suggestions already, would you mind sending us the exact troubleshooting steps you've tried so far? That way we can avoid repeating any steps.
If you haven't yet, we recommend you to start off with a clean reinstall of the Spotify app on your device. By doing that the app can be up-to-date and you can make sure the cache is not leading to this behavior. You can see the steps for a clean reinstall here.
If the above doesn't do the trick, then we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us:
Keep us in the loop!
It’s an iPhone 11 iOS 17
spotify version 8.9.90.84
i did a clean reinstall, cleared cache, made sure background refresh is on, I did update the app at one point.
it didn’t start after an update that I noticed but I don’t really pay much attention to updates so that doesn’t really mean anything.
Model: IPhone 12
IOS version 18.1 (Was on 17 when problem started. I hoped updating would solve the issue)
Spotify Version: 8.9.90.84
I started to have the exact same problem highlighted here as well. It has been going on for over a week now. I’ve tried the suggestions here, such as turning on all permissions for Spotify, I made sure there’s no optimization restrictions, I’ve logged off and in multiple times, I’ve deleted the app and did 2 clean installs once where I waited 24 hours before redownloading. The app crashes whenever it’s running in the background either when my phones off or using other apps. Podcasts for some reason seem to be fine but music always crashes.

My Question or Issue
Every night I queue up about 5 or 6 songs and then a podcast and I set the Spotify sleep timer for 45 minutes. However, maybe every 10 or so times on average that I do this, the app crashes. Sometimes it'll happen more frequently and it'll crash every night for a few days, or sometimes it'll go a few weeks without happening at all. It's completely random when it crashes, and it can happen anywhere from one song into my queue or all the way to the end with the podcast. This has been happening for at least close to a year, but I can't say exactly when it began.
cool cool cool...still no fix for something we're paying for. I guess I'm moving to apple music even though i've been a customer since you came to the U.S. haha. Your ui, is superior to apple music but if I can't use it without crash, the experience sucks,
