Hi! A few days ago the Spotify app stopped working on my iPad 1st. It keeps trying to connect ... I'm using the latest version compatible with iOS 5.1.1.
Help?
thanks!
You just confirmed my assumption that Spotify & Apple want us to buy more iPads,,,
I may have a partial workaround that at least salvages some capability to continue to use my old ipad for Spotify. Setting the wifi connection to use an HTTP proxy restored my ability to see playlists and stream music on my iPad with IOS 5.1.1 running Spotify 0.7.2.26. Search function does not work - it looks like that piece of the Spotify client is unable to establish a connection.
In this example a proxy from NordVPN worked. To use NordVPN proxy requires a subscription. There are others - over to you to decide which one you prefer and trust.
If you have a suitable HTTP proxy that you can use go to:
Settings -> Wi-Fi -> and select the active connection.
Set HTTP Proxy to manual and configure the settings for a suitable HTTP proxy.

That’s really cool. That’s also a lot of hardware that won’t run Spotify.
It actually really stinks.
"The iPad 2, 3 and 1st generation iPad Mini are all ineligible and excluded from upgrading to iOS 10."
You also missing: Iphone 4s and older and first iPad Mini.
They only support these iphones
That includes:
iPhone
iPad
iPod
No they just support only the 64 bit processor Apple devices now because 32 bit can be easily hacked these days.

That's fabulous. Worth a major try. Thank you!
Not to beat a dead horse or anything but the more I think about this the
angrier I get.
There are many millions of people on the planet who cannot afford any
kind of ios 10 device but might be able to obtain a used ios 5.
And I'll bet an iPad 1 they aren't worried about internet security.
Spotify is more or less reaffirming the upper classes shall remain that
way and the rest can eat sheet.
And not get to enjoy good music.
Just gives me goosebumps.
To be honest you can save a ton of money and just go with a cheap android device and it will be way more up to date then any old apple device. Most stores sell them for as little as $25 dollars.
Seriously, !!!!SPOTIFY!!!! So many of us have this issue!!!! Do you not **bleep**? I guess not... so disappointing!
Hahaha... yes *BLEEP* that’s NOT what I wrote...
Miraculously my app started to connect again!
Try and see.
Not sure but I had a serious chat with Spotify reminding them to act responsable towards a sustainable society. More people can keep their old hardwear not being forced to buy new stuff just to be able to listen to music.
It does not work on my ipad ¿¿why?? 😞
Still not working 😡
It’s a bit unstabile. Works on and off but restarting the app works most of the time. Streamed radio all evening 🙂
The proxy solution works
Why Spotify ?! Why ?
I have an iPod touch 3g with 32gb docked to a sound base, why do you want me to through it out when it's working ?
It's seems to be an user agent based restriction
I'm really disapointed !
Well I am fuming. I have an ipad 1 and a libratone loop non bt version and it seems both of these devices have now been dropped. The loop had connect built in so i could use my android phone etc and now to compound matters i can't even airplay from the ipad 1. My chromecast and fire tv work fine.
Like others have said, the ipad 1 was a perfectly adequate music, netflix device with an amazing life battery to boot. After being a loyal customer for 10 years or so spotify can kiss my membership goodbye.
Same problem. Hugely disappointed with Spotify. My ipad docks into a what was the top of the range Bang Olufsen sound system. Can´t get android to connect to a bluetooth plug either. Basically my music listening experience (try living without music Spotify!) has been destroyed. This problem should be addressed. The response has been disgraceful.
