Video interrupts music

My Question or Issue

When I am listening to my music and I go back to the Home section in the spotify app as soon as there are video suggestions in a section (e.g. Video podcast) the video starts playing and interrupts the currently played music (it does that, even if the mute symbol for the video is choosen). As soon as I scroll back or even further the video stops playing and the previously played music continues.

This is annoying! Please disable this autoplay feature as soon as possible.

Hi @475,

Thanks for the reply.

We tested this further on our end and while we still couldn't reproduce the exact issue, we did find a workaround that might help. Consider trying the following:

  • Go to Settings and privacy > Data Saver. Toggle Data Saver to ON. This often forces the app to show static images instead of auto-playing video previews to save bandwidth.
  • Go to Settings and privacy > Data-saving and offline. Toggle on Audio-only streaming for video podcasts. This prevents the video portion of podcast feeds from playing automatically.

These will prevent any videos from autoplaying, which should in turn prevent your music from being interrupted. We can't provide any ETA as to when or if the issue itself is going to get addressed, but we recommend you keep your app up-to-date to take advantage of all the latest features and fixes and we hope that these steps can help you enjoy all your favourite content without interruptions.

Hope this helps.

Hi there, @475

Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the Spotify Community!

In this case, you can try disabling Canvas in settings (go to Settings and Privacy > Content Preferences > Canvas). In that same menu you'll find an option to Reduce Animations that can be distracting. Also, make sure the Autoplay option from the Playback menu is turned off. You can try switching from video to audio mode on the Now Playing screen too.

If none of that works, you can try a clean reinstall of the Spotify app (according to your phone/device).

Let us know how it goes!

I just tried the suggested things. Same behavior. Just that now the currently playing music is interrupted but the video preview audio is silent.

Just to be clear: I am not talking about the canvas feature. The videos appearing on the home screen are interrupting my music. I uploaded a screenshot showing a video podcast. As soon as it appears on my screen, when scrolling down, it starts playing (without clicking on it).

Hey @475,

Thank you for the clarification.

We tried to replicate this behavior from our end, but the music keeps playing normally when the video preview plays on the home screen. So in this case, would you mind checking on a different mobile device (using your own account) to see if it makes any difference? If you don't have another one available, you can borrow one from a friend or family member to test it out.

It would also be great if you could have that same friend/relative log in with their account on your device to see if the issue persists. This will help us understand if it could be device-related or not.

Lastly, include in your next response the exact OS version of your iPhone, along with the Spotify version you're currently running to continue investigating the case.

We'll be on the lookout.

Hi, thank you for trying to find a solution. I have an iPhone 14 Pro running iOS 26.3 and the Spotify version is 9.1.24.1737. I noticed that it occurs when I am listening on a HomePod Mini (running the latest version). When I am connected to my AirPods Pro everything is fine. Most of the time I am listening to my music via my HomePods. I am connecting to my HomePods by clickiing on the connect symbol within Spotify.

Thank you for your help. I will try this. I am anyway having auto update for my apps activated. If I have any new findings I can share them with you. Best regards Martin
