As of Spotify 8.9.xx and newer I can't control the volume on my iPhone when casting to a Chromecast device. I need to go into the slider inside the Spotify app to change the volume.
This is not an iOS or apple issue:
My non working version of Spotify is 8.9.16.556 and just today updated to 8.9.18.xx which has the same bug.
On another iPhone a WORKING version of Spotify is 8.9.14.526
The latter works perfectly fine. It is not a iOS problem but a Spotify bug!
Both iPhones run iOS 17.3.1
If this is not being actively solved by Spotify I'm sorry to say I will cancel my subscription and change to Tidal. This is a CORE functionality.
If it's fixed in the beta it means they are aware of the issue and have made a decision to NOT inform us about it and a decision to post a false solution.
Why even have this community when it is used like this?
Same issue here. iPhone 13 and iPhone 15.
I suspect it’s to make us feel like they are listening.
FWIW, Apple’s support forums are just as opaque.
This is not an iOS issue. Unbelievable. It’s not a huge deal because I just open the Google Home app and adjust the volume from there. The problem is Spotify not taking accountability. That lack of business savvy is not sending a good message to their PAYING customers

Frustrating to say the least.
This topic has been discussed before but issue came back with latest IOS upgrade 17.4 on iPhone 13 Pro. If i select to play on my apple watch with airpods i can adjust volume. If i select Sonos speakers i can adjust volume on apple watch. But when playing on iphone i am unable adjust volume on apple watch. There is no haptic in volume/crown button. Restarted watch and phone. Reset watch. reinstalled spotify app. Nothing helps. Apple Watch 4.

My Question or Issue
Since the last iOS update (v17.4) i can't adjust the Sonos Volume through Spotify Connect with the volume buttons. I've contacted SONOS Support, they said I must address this issue with Spotify.
On Windows 10 & Windows 11 devices I stil can adjust the SONOS volume.
I've tried this with 3 iPhones (iPhone 11, 12 and 13) all on iOS 17.4.
I've also tried this on other networks with other SONOS Speakers, same result.
I still can adjust the volume through the SONOS App on iOS.
Spotify version: 8.9.19.571
Apple and SONOS are willing to support you if needed, but they say that Spotify must contact them if needed.
also me 😕
Also having this problem playing to Amazon smart speakers… super frustrating that this basic functionality was apparently removed on purpose?! Do I need to move to a difference service that knows how to implement proper volume controls?
I’ve removed the Spotify app from my watch in the meantime. The Now Playing app controls the volume fine so I’ll go with that for now.
Same issue with Sonos system on iOS14.
NO 2FA
NO HiFi
And now this 🤦♂️…
Latest update - volume control has been hit or miss for me, the only way I'm able to get it working is to start playing to a Sonos speaker, force close Spotify, re-open and it magically gets volume control. It's almost as though there's some sort of communication issue happening and force closing the app and re-opening reconnects the volume control.
same issue
On an old iPhone 6s Plus with iOS 15.8.2 the volume buttons DO work.
Spotify App: 8.9.19.571
So in my case it seems isolated to iOS 17.4.
Same problem. Please spotify fix It!!!
Same problem, I cannot change the volume with the Apple Watch's Digital Crown when streaming from the iPhone.
Not sure this was mentioned already but i found new function on the AppleWatch to adjust the volume instead of the crown.
Was this there before or did it come with lates 10.4 IOS update and this made the volume to break on the crown button?
In the picture, the little ear icon with a green check mark ( this comes when airpods are connected to iphone), press it and you get the second picture. This means the volume adjustment of the iphone itself is not broken but the digital crown volume adjustment is broken. Must be easy to fix.
And to follow up on my success - that others had and others didn't. Yesterday, when I got onto Spotify from my phone, I was again unable to use my i{Phone's volume control to change volume on Spotify. I returned to using my stereo receiver's app to change volume for Spotify. No Spotify or iPhone updates happened the last several days, either.
Whatever fix was done with this issue over a week ago, it's been undone and is now no longer working.
Seems to be related to iOS version on my end as well.
iPhone 13 Mini + iOS 17.3.1 = buttons working
iPhone 15 Pro + iOS 17.4 = buttons not working
Spotify version is 8.9.19.571 on both.
I had to go back to the now playing app in order to use the volume control. Not ideal and super inconvenient while at the gym. Spotifys silence says they don't seem terribly concerned about it 😕
