As of Spotify 8.9.xx and newer I can't control the volume on my iPhone when casting to a Chromecast device. I need to go into the slider inside the Spotify app to change the volume.
This is not an iOS or apple issue:
My non working version of Spotify is 8.9.16.556 and just today updated to 8.9.18.xx which has the same bug.
On another iPhone a WORKING version of Spotify is 8.9.14.526
The latter works perfectly fine. It is not a iOS problem but a Spotify bug!
Both iPhones run iOS 17.3.1
If this is not being actively solved by Spotify I'm sorry to say I will cancel my subscription and change to Tidal. This is a CORE functionality.
Hey folks,
Thanks again for raising this to the community.
Spotify is rolling out a new way to control your volume when listening via Spotify Connect on your iPhone. Instead of using the hardware buttons on the side of your iOS device, you will now need to use the volume slider within the Spotify app. This change is a result of Apple discontinuing the technology that powers some of Spotify’s volume controls.
We'll be here if anything else comes up.
This is mad, we now have a volume slider pop up when you touch the volume buttons? Just stick a volume slider front and centre of the Spotify screen whilst something is playing? It's not like we're short of screen real estate, it's just filled up with pictures, videos, suggestions and garbage instead of the one thing everyone needs - basic play controls and a volume slider.
of course: the option is Apple to install full chromecast support in iOS as an alternative for airplay.
the funny part: it is already integrated in iOS - just only for Apple Airplay, where you can use the hardware buttons, too.
Apple truly sucks ...
So you up our payments like twice and I don’t complain but you wanna take more away after I continue to pay more… truly disheartening from a company I want to like so much. Complete fail
I’m having this problem again and again. So frustrating. To make it worse the slide bar volume controls don’t work either. I’m done with Spotify!!!
First of all, this core feature should never have been removed. Secondly, even the volume slider control doesn’t work. At this point Spotify is completely useless! I’m done with Spotify forever!!! I want some compensation too. I’m paying for a service that you can’t even control the volume. That’s a pretty basic feature. See you later!!! 👋
Who the **bleep** asked for this?
Same problem, this option is a must and with all the other failed updates i am cancelling my family subscriptions.
10 years of Spotify. Now I’m done.
every thing you did since last years is a complete fail. Ever thing you did have conclude into a lose of feature or accessibility, with his amount of bugs and annoying decision that are not for users but only for your cash incoming.
i’m done with you now, this was the straw that breaks the camel's back.
I've been using Spotify since its launch back in the day, when it was still just a rumor in Sweden. I've never posted before, but this recent change has completely ruined the experience for me. I can no longer quickly adjust the volume on my Hi-Fi system. As an audiophile, having to open the app just to adjust the volume when the music gets interesting is incredibly frustrating. I could switch to Tidal or Apple Music—it would be annoying, but this change is making Spotify feel redundant.
Removing ability for iPhone volume buttons to control volume is going to be a deal-breaker.
Yeah I like that they’re trying to improve the UX but this is a major fail Spotify. Now instead of just using my volume keys from Lock Screen or Home Screen I have to unlock, open the app, hit the volume button, then use the slider. FFS.
Get. Rid. Of. It.
This is the absolute worst feature Spotify has ever implemented. There’s no reason you should have to unlock your phone and open the app to adjust speaker volume.
Sincerely,
Long Time Spotify User
It is Apple. They control the interface, not Spotify.
Spotify's App policy is a pain, yes. Nice & important features cancelled and crappy "inventions" integrated. Community communication is bad, indeed.
But Spotify Connect has been kicked by Apple. Deezer and others may work. But they use other API. See my screenshot above. Everything is there with AirPlay, but not with Spotify Connect.
Taking away this functionality is a shot in the knee....
Fix this please - as PeterPan58 says this is core functionality....
The new volume UI is disconnected from the phones volume hardware when casting, so I have to open Spotify, hit the volume again, the. Use the UI that pops up. Why?? #badux
