iOS app DNS weirdness...

iOS app DNS weirdness...

I use DNSCrypt for my DNS on my home server and for some reason the Spotify iOS app just CANNOT deal with that - while every other app has no problem at all.  When I use the DNSCrypt server, the iOS just gives the standard "error, can't connect". I see a lot of people with similar DNS problems and I want to understand why Spotify's DNS implementation for the iOS app (desktop app works fine) is just SO CRAZY. Does anyone know why the Spotify iOS app is so picky about its DNS?  This makes no sense! Any help is appreciated.  Thanks!

I too had DNS issues today on IOS only.  Android and Windows work just fine.

For some reason the IOS app makes calls different than others...

Mine was blocked by raspberry pi running pi-hole.  Unfortinately my wife is the only iUser in the house and I don't have root to tell you exactly what went out.

To community:

Can someone get a pcap from rooted iphone by running tcpdump on outbound 53 traffic?

To spotify:

Can you provide a list of DNS so we can whitelist?  I know there is already information for firewalls but this is a different issue.

It is more simple than that :).

I checked logs and found this:

2017-03-14T22:19:06 A spclient.wg.spotify.com

So for whatever reason that record isn't necessary on non-IOS devices...

I searched google and found that same address recommended by others:

spclient.wg.spotify.com

Cheers!
