Is this using airplay? Have you checked out this FAQ?
Not using airplay. It's the Bose sound Dock Series 1
To my knowledge, Spotify only support USB connection for playback with Ford Sync which might be causing the issue.
Also, there might be hardware differences here, the iPhone 5 is lightning connector (smaller connector) size than the old analogue ones isn't it?

I may be wrong but I believe the only way you can do this is to stream to the sound dock using bluetooth and an adapter for the dock such as this one.
I have in the past played my music via wireless connection through my itouch. But the iphone 4 with the matching connector doesn't.
Thx. I have seen these around. Before I fork out $40 for this adapter, I want to see if there is nothing wrong with the system. Great suggestion though.
