Cannot switch between countries and cards

Cannot switch between countries and cards

I want to switch countries from UK to Greece, and therefore use a Greek debit card (instead of a UK debit card) to charge the monthly submission.

However, when I change the country, the page asks me to add my card details. Once I do, it says the card is not a UK card and does not accept it. Is there a way to do this all over from the beginning (eg. cancel premium subscription, add my country as Greece and then buy Premium again)? Will it accept my Greek debit card then?

Thank you!

Hey there!

If you want to change the country payment method, take a look at these instructions HERE. If you follow these steps, you should be good!

Let me know how it goes and feel free to reply to me if you need any further help. 😄

Hi thanks for getting back to me.

Unfortunately this is what I had been doing but it's not working.

I click to switch countries, it asks for a payment method from my country, and when I use my card(have tried with both a credit and a debit card) it goes back to the first page and asks me to choose a country again, as it says my card shows it's not from the UK (where my Spotify Premium was initially bought).

My thought is maybe it's because I am trying to use a Greek card (obviously, if I want to switch to Greece!), and it is not accepted due to capital controls.

The only way to find out if this is the problem, is to have someone from Spotify answer this, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do it.

In this case, it's better to delete your payment info and cancel your subscription altogether. You will still be premium until the remaining days of your subscription are used up.

What I'm suggesting you to do is this:

1. Go to your Subscription and payment overview --> http://spotify.com/account/subscription/

2. Click UPDATE DETAILS. If it shows below 'Would you like to cancel your subscription?' click there and cancel.

3. Check the box to 'Remove', and click 'Change' button,

Note: If you have your Premium active you won't be able to remove your payment info. That's why it's important to cancel before clicking UPDATE DETAILS.

After you've cancelled and removed your payment info, change your country in profile (if you need to), and resubscribe to Premium with the new card info to ensure that your offline music won't be deleted and that your subscription will renew correctly when it's time.

Your payment card country must match your country in profile, an the country of your IP address.

Hi,

Thanks very much for the help!

I don't know if I will proceed with doing this, since there is a chance that I won't be able to subscribe to Premium again if Spotify does not accept payments from Greece.

This is why I need to find a way to contact someone from Spotify and ask if there is such a problem indeed.. Or at least find another Premium user from Greece who has managed to pay with their card during the capital controls period.

@elenakap

There shouldn't be any problem, since Spotify has officially landed in Greece:

Check the website:

As long as your payment card country matches your country in profile, and the country of your IP address, you should be good.

Hey there @elenakap

Have you tried deleting your cache/cookies in your browser or opening an incognito window and trying again?

I'm Greek and came across this issue too. I had spoken with Cosmote a while ago and they'd told me I shouldn't have any issues getting a subscription with my greek debit card. In the end though I ended up getting Premium through Cosmote directly for other reasons. It's worth a shot to get in touch with your bank and make sure that your card is okay for payments like this, just to be totally sure.

Hope any of this was helpful!
