Change Username (Not Display Name)?

Change Username (Not Display Name)?

My Question or Issue

Hello, my current username includes my former married name. I got divorced this August and I'd REALLY like to change my username. I've changed my display name already. I just don't want any more reminders of my former spouse. Is there any possible way to change this without recreating an account?

Hey @noenthusiast, thanks for reaching out to the Community!

Since usernames are used to identify you on Spotify, it's not possible to change it at the moment. The only option in this case would be to create a new account.

If you choose this option, you're able to transfer all of your content from your old account to the new account following these steps.

There is also some more information on usernames and display names in this support article.

Hope this clears things up!

Thanks, Billy-J. I appreciate the info and I’ll create a new account and
transfer my content.

I find it interesting that Spotify is likely using the username as the
primary key of the database tables rather than assigning a random number to
each account. Just saying.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hey @noenthusiast,

Sounds like a plan.

I understand your concern and thanks for your feedback. I've passed it on to the right folks and Spotify does everything they can to make the experience better.

If you need anything in the future, you know where to find me.

Have a great week!
