My Question or Issue

When I try and amend or change my password you always ask for my current password to effect any changes

i do not have my current password so cannot progress any further. My only option is to cancel subscription as I am unable to add Spotify to my newphone

From what you're describing, you're trying to change the password from the account page, which does require the old one. Try instead to request a new password with this link. This is the process for recovering an account when you don't remember your password, so the old one won't be necessary, just access to the email address associated with your account.
