Question about 'aftermath' Spotify hack

Question about 'aftermath' Spotify hack

Hi,

Recently I got my account hacked by someone. It started while I was driving and playing spotify on my phone, when all of the sudden I saw a message displaying 'playing on Sony Xperia Z3'. I thought this is either some sort of mistake or someone hacked my account.

Stupid as I am, I didn't think much of it and didn't change my password. Last night I was with some friends and I was playing spotify on my phone again when all of the sudden all my playlists dissapeared and someone was adding his own playlists to my account...

Obviously I realised I was hacked for sure and I logged into spotify, pressed sign out everywhere and changed my password and also restored my deleted playlists (AWESOME feature!! I thought I had lost my playlists for sure.)

So it seems that I have my account back again, but I am wondering how can this happen? Admittedly, my password for spotify was pretty weak - I forgot to change it a while back.. But how do people guess my username? And also, do I have to take additional action to protect my spotify (or possibly creditcard and email adress?)

Hope someone can help me out.

Regards.

Hey Michelp2!

Welcome to the Spotify Community, great to see you're part of the band.

We're glad you took control of the situation and acted quickly, you did well signing out from everywhere and changing your password! Now, does this device Sony Xperia Z3 sound familiar at all? Is it possible you could've left your account open somewhere?

Just to check, do you have your account linked to your Facebook. It's also likely you could've left your FB open somewhere and they used that option to log into your Spotify Account.

Don't worry! If you've already logged out from everywhere and changed your password, this shouldn't happen again.

Don't hesitate to drop us a message if you need any help 🙂

Hey,thanks for the warm welcome!

No the Sony Xperia device does not sound familiar at all. It's possible that people hacked into my account trough facebook, although they didnt do anything weird on my facebook.

Anyway, I got my account back and it's secured with a good password now 😉 Thanks for your reply!

Hi, This happened to me as the other original post to this thread. A Sony Xperia phone had connected their device to my spotify. Tried to figure how this could happen. I dont use Facebook sign in and never use other pcs that is not secure. just my devices are used. So this is just bizarre. Changed my password and will turn off all my other devices connected with that old password. Why is this happening?
