If i purchase the yearly premium instead of the monthly one, would auto renew be turned off?
Here's what it says in the explanation for the yearly: 'Your Spotify Premium plan begins when when we have successfully processed your payment and will expire at the end of the period you've purchased.' & '119.88 CAD for 1 year. Paid once.'
But it doesn't say this for the monthly one: 'If you don't cancel your subscription before the trial ends on March 9, 2017, you agree that you will automatically be charged the subscription fee every month until you cancel.' & '9.99 CAD per month after trial.'
Is there a Spotify representative that can clarify this?
Hey @vince604,
It's a good question. If you pay yearly, your Subscription page should show the date it will end and if it will renew after.
Even if it doesn't say so, you can cancel before it ends, and you'll still be on Premium for the remainder of the period you've paid for. After that, it will revert back to Free.
Hope it helps. 🙂
Oops! Please disregard my double posting and refer to osornios' post! He has a more complete answer.
@osornios Yeah thats the thing though... I don't really want to call or contact customer support to cancel. I rather just have it expire on it's own.
For now im really thinking about going with apple music as I can use the apple gift cards to be a member, whereas the spotify gift cards are only available in the US.
You don't need to contact support to cancel, you manage your subscription by yourself through your Subscription page. Your yearly membership is paid in advance, so you could delete your payment info after the fact. Without any payment details, no new charges can be made.
Where are you located? See if you can buy a giftcard for you to use in your account through the website.
@osornios
I honestly don't believe that after reading through many other threads, and the fact that I've had a difficult time finding others who have the same concerns that I do as well. With that said, I rather not use a credit card to get the premium. However, I've found some neat apps that can transfer my playlist from spotify to apple music.
I've already checked months ago and I'm pretty sure it hasn't changed. Spotify gift cards is only available in the US (and perhaps Europe?), but not in Canada.
