Recreated account forced to use old username

Hi there,

I just returned to Spotify after years of inactivity and I decided I wanted to start fresh and close my account so I could create a new one with the same email address but a different username. Closing the account and everything went fine, but I've run into an issue having created my new account with the same email.

It seems Spotify got a little confused because I registered my new account under the new name, planetariuhm, with the same email that was linked to the old account I just closed. I received my confirmation email and everything and completed my registration but as soon as Spotify logs me in, the account name is set as my old one. That said, it's definitely a new account because all my music and playlists are gone.

It’s not possible to change your username, but click an option below for alternative solutions.

If you want a profile that displays a different name, you can create a new account. During sign up, you can create any profile name you'd like.

No, that's my point. I have created a new account with the new name using the email address of the old account which I've now deactivated, yet when I log into this new account (using the same email as my previous - now deactivated - account), spotify is still calling me by my old username... Probably because my new account is using the same email address I used previously.

I've noticed if I log in online my new username is used, and on mobile a long string of numbers is used, and on desktop my old name is used... I'm very confused haha

Good to know this doesn't work, I was just about to attempt this.

Spotify please stop being such a trash panda and allow your users to change their account name, link your algorithm to the email ffs.

When you deleted your account it saved it as a archive. What that means is that it saved your information, which means that all your data is saved for when you make a new account. If you go to the "Recover Playlist" section on spotify.com you can Recover playlist that have been deleted recently.
