Alright, the past few moths I've been having a horrible time with Spotify radio.
Long story short, I had to have my account deleted and I was told to create a new account from a Spotify support representative.
Since the creation of my new account Spotify radio has been HORRIBLE.
Artist / Genre radio stations play completely random and irrelevant music, no where close to the selected artists or genre.
For example, I listen to punk, metal, hardcore etc. When I set my radio station to play lets say artist "Parkway Drive" a heavier metalcore band after a song or two Spotify radio decides it's a good time to play Kings of Leon, Foster the People, Taylor Swift etc (Top 40 / Pop) as you can see not even close to being similar.
Does anyone know of any sort of fix or work around? Or do I just have to deal with it?
I have a month or two left of my subscription, I probably won't renew after the past month of issues and inconsistent support.
i don't think there's really a fix for this. you might just have to deal with it. if doing the Thumbs down didnt work of course.

Yeah you would be correct. The thumbs down does absolutely nothing.

I'll give that a try and see how it goes!

Didn't change a thing ๐
aww man, that's a shame ๐
No fix unfortunately, but I can confirm that the radio experience is about the same for me right now. It seems like a lot of the stations are now gravitating to top 40/pop stuff, so they tend to end up very similar regardless of the starting artist. Today was probably the most extreme case of this I've experienced...I like to listen to some Celtic folk type music now and then, and I started a station based on a group called Anuna.
Their music sounds like this:
First song that played on the radio? This:
I don't think there's any way to justify that choice lol. I gave it a thumbs down and got some Linkin Park, various indie music, then finally one Irish group. I'm sure this is still something to do with algorithm testing, just hope it does improve soon, as I used to use radio quite often and thought it was great, if not perfect.
Another test involved a station based on an entire Celtic playlist I've made...it happens to include a song by Clannad featured in Last of the Mohicans, which leads the station to play constant movie themes. The list also includes Blackmore's Night, featuring Richie Blackmore, who used to be in Deep Purple and Rainbow, which ends up pulling in music from Ozzy Osbourne and Queen even though they sound nothing like Blackmore's Night. Thumbing down any of this really doesn't help in any way.
So, all that said, I think this is going to just take a lot of patience. I've always felt the Echonest aquisition would ultimately lead to more accurate radio.
By the way, you might follow this thread as well, as there's somewhat of an ongoing discussion regarding algorithm changes.
Yeah. I think today was the nail in the coffin for spotify for me.
Is there an ETA for a fix? Or any talk of them going back to the way it was?
I loved spotify up until 2-3 months ago. It took a huge dive as far as content, service, billing, support, variety.
If one more top40 or mainstream metal band pops up into my play list i'm out for good.
How many times do I need to thumbs down a band before it will STOP PLAYING THEM.
Honestly its like if the radio is playing track for track off a selected artists album its playing completely irrelivent music. I can't take it anymore.
