My Question or Issue

For several months (pretty much years at this point), my Spotify friends feed has not been updating, it only shows 1 friend I have, while it should have a dozen others. This has been going on for far too long for it to be a problem on my end as I have changed my devices, settings, and other things to try and fix it. I have reinstalled Spotify and my OS but nothing helps. I also see no friends through my Facebook integration even after disconnecting and reconnecting my Facebook profile multiple times. All my settings are the same as my friends and he can see his friend activity but I can't. I already posted about this problem once, and was told it would fix itself but that was months ago. This is very infuriating as it has been going for so long.

We have seen the reports of people saying Friend Feed is not working for them, and we are happy to investigate specific cases, because as far as we are aware, there are no issues with Friend Feed working.

Firstly, it’s important to restate that ALL users had “Share my listening activity on Spotify” turned off as default - so users you followed and saw in your Friend Feed in the past, will no longer show in your Friend Feed, UNLESS they turned “Share my listening activity on Spotify” back on.

Also worth noting that you don’t need Facebook set up for Friend Feed to work.

Having said that, all of the below must be true for users to show in your Friend Feed:

  • You must be following the friend whose activity you want to see.
  • The friend must have enabled the setting to publish their activity:
    • Share my listening activity on Spotify - toggled on.
  • The friend must have played more than 30 seconds of a track on iOS, Android or Desktop in the last 7 days.
  • This can’t be in a Private Session.
  • Also you should both have restarted the App at some point recently.

If all of this is true for you and your friend and they don’t show up in your Friend Feed, then:

  • We need you, and the friend you are following, to post here saying you give us permission to check your accounts.
  • We need explicit written permission from both of you.
  • We can't test this with one person's username and permission.
  • It’s enough to post here, we can find your username based on your Community profile.

Once we have this we can do some checking. Thanks all.

I did this.
This feature is not an improvement and it is not working how you envisioned it.

I am following personal accounts from artists who aren't my friends on Facebook but within Spotify. Their music choices inspire me to listen to new/other music.
YOU REMOVED THAT FUNCTION.
I am telling you to improve/revert this function.

I can't stand that Spotify ignores us for this long. I am leaving Spotify and go to Tidal. If friends activity is OK again, I maybe come back.

This has been happening to me for a while too.

Spotify also just gives everyone the same response and that response is repeated over and over again telling us they see what we say. I think it's complete bull! I don't like how Spotify is looking now. I feel like sending a letter to the Better Business Bureau or whatever with how they never solve issues that thousands of people have on the topic and how the platform is now looking.

Hi @loxer, I'm getting the exact same issue. I tried everything. I've also tried your suggestion for windows but when I checked the hosts file on Notepad nothing was written there. Could this be the problem? I don't think so but still I don't know what causes this issue.

I also have the same issue. At first I didn't see any of my friends and now I only see one. I've logged in and out several times and gone through all my settings and asked my friends if they have changed their settings. Nothing helps.

I suppose people at Spotify have no friends since they have been happy to destroy any social feature for a while now.
They also don't care at all about their "community" ( mostly PAYING customers ) and will simply copy/paste useless answers or ignore messages.
I'm tired of this platform that just keep being worse every year.
Why am I still giving my money? I'm just dumb I suppose... But not for long...

Hi! I confirmed, and they are not using a private session. I tried to unfollow and follow again one of my friends, and I still can't see their activity. Let me know what else I should try. Thank you!

please can we just back to how it was in november and before - with everyone’s sharing activity switched on…

this is affecting my health so much

I've tried almost everything, and I still can seem to fix the friend activity. I've reset my pc. I checked for updates. I logged out and logged in multiple times. turned on and off the settings to see activity. I've deleted and reinstalled Spotify multiple times. It just keeps telling me about the same thing on the right side of my screen. "Go to settings> Social and enable 'share my listening activity on Spotify' You can turn this off at any time. And I have over and over. I don't know what's up. I have a premium plan btw. rethinking plan since Spotify is just broken.

Hey @VeryLuckyDoge,

Thanks for posting here in the Community.

In case there is an active listening activity, this message should automatically disappear and the listening activity of your followers should appear.

It's a good idea to check with your friends if they have the option Share my listening activity on Spotify enabled as it is turned off by default.

Hope this helps. The Community is here for you if there's anything else!

It's a big shame for Spotify

Many people have had this problem since December, and Spotify technicians are still responding the same way. They say "Share my listening activity on Spotify" option must be enabled or that your friends are not sharing their activity with you. But this is not true! As you can see in the picture below my "share" is enabled, but my friends activity doesn't work. And I follow 28 friends and it would be strange if all my friends do not enable their sharing. My colleague who is sitting next to me can see me and I can't see him anymore.

I hope this problem will be fixed soon. Because ignoring so many customers since December is really shameful.

Same issue here. Please review this Spotify.

Hi @alicedesormiers,

Thank you for your reply and sharing that information!

Since you've already checked with your friends if they have the setting on, then we suggest you ask your friends to contact the folks from Customer Support who can take a deeper look into their account. Here is the link.

Hi, i am having the same problem after last Spotify update, i have tried everything you mentioned here, even the clean install, and nothing, same issue, i even see only 2 following friends, from almost 20 I had. I have a gamer laptop Asus Strix. So this is definitely a bug in the app or something, please fix it.

Hey @Kapkek,

Thanks for posting here.

Could you provide us with the following info? We'll look into this further.

  • If your friends have the option Share my listening activity on Spotify turned on
  • What device they used
  • What they were listening to and when

Keep us posted.

I'm still having this problem as well, and it's been a number of months. It seems to be a relatively major bug that is affecting a lot of people. Can we get this looked into more?

can we sort this out and get it back to normal …

please

Now mid February 2022 and still no solution? I've tried to get it back on for a couple weeks. Just clicking the button like your article says, uninstalling and relogging in does nothing. You need to fix this.

Wow, multiple threads of the same issue. Just clicking it back "on" doesn't seem to work at all. My feed has been missing for months and Spotify treating it like a user issue. Your team needs to undo the mess you've made.
