Spotify friends activity empty/not updating

My Question or Issue

For several months (pretty much years at this point), my Spotify friends feed has not been updating, it only shows 1 friend I have, while it should have a dozen others. This has been going on for far too long for it to be a problem on my end as I have changed my devices, settings, and other things to try and fix it. I have reinstalled Spotify and my OS but nothing helps. I also see no friends through my Facebook integration even after disconnecting and reconnecting my Facebook profile multiple times. All my settings are the same as my friends and he can see his friend activity but I can't. I already posted about this problem once, and was told it would fix itself but that was months ago. This is very infuriating as it has been going for so long.

We have seen the reports of people saying Friend Feed is not working for them, and we are happy to investigate specific cases, because as far as we are aware, there are no issues with Friend Feed working.

Firstly, it’s important to restate that ALL users had “Share my listening activity on Spotify” turned off as default - so users you followed and saw in your Friend Feed in the past, will no longer show in your Friend Feed, UNLESS they turned “Share my listening activity on Spotify” back on. 

Also worth noting that you don’t need Facebook set up for Friend Feed to work.

Having said that, all of the below must be true for users to show in your Friend Feed:

• You must be following the friend whose activity you want to see.
• The friend must have enabled the setting to publish their activity:
• Share my listening activity on Spotify - toggled on.
• The friend must have played more than 30 seconds of a track on iOS, Android or Desktop in the last 7 days.
• This can’t be in a Private Session.
• Also you should both have restarted the App at some point recently.

If all of this is true for you and your friend and they don’t show up in your Friend Feed, then:

• We need you, and the friend you are following, to post here saying you give us permission to check your accounts.
• We need explicit written permission from both of you.
• We can't test this with one person's username and permission.  
• It’s enough to post here, we can find your username based on your Community profile.

my friends are all active on spotify. i don't have the toggle button it just says "disconnect from facebook" and the sidebar says that i should turn on my settings so my friends can see what i listen to (also already turned on).

The issue being described is still persists. I have taken every step to assure a clean reinstall, powered my device on and off, and assured that people have their activity settings toggled on from their end. I am still receiving the same screen upon login and account connection to "let friends and followers on Spotify see what you're listening to". My settings to "share my listening activity on Spotify" and "See what your friends are playing" have both been toggled on. 

It's also worth mentioning that while it's understandable to protect people's privacy; For those who did not wish for their followers to see what they listen to, keep in mind the option to toggle their activity off has always been available. Friend activity has always been a unique feature of Spotify. You already had a working solution, and your latest update has created upset in your community. Telling your users to try to communicate to every single one of the people they followed (some of which only know some accounts through the service and can't even see them anymore due to the update) is asking far too much. I personally am an avid Spotify listener, and while this was not the first reason I joined the service, there are those out there who joined specifically for this feature. Why else would this thread be 7 pages long?

All in all, your approach on privacy protection was very poorly executed. This was not something that really needed to be addressed/"fixed" in the first place. I know I'm not alone on this.

Please fix it Properly, or revert your service back to it's full potential for your users.

Hi.

After months of having no friends' activity on my spotify app, I decided to join the discussion. I miss my friends and seeing them listening to something old or something new was somehow a way to know how they were feeling through their songs. It was a very cool feature. Now it seems to be gone for most of my friends (3 remaining now), since your last update whot took all of that away. Thanks, I guess, for nothing, really. This update gave me nothing except maybe switching to a more appealing platform, besides, your suggestions that introduced me to new artists stopped being appealing at all by suggesting me to listen to already listened songs. But that's another topic. Bring back our friends' activity log.

My Question or Issue

This have been driving me crazy for a while. Idk what to do. I have the setting switched on but i can't still see my friends activity. 
And yes I have tried reinstalling the app, restarted my computer, re log in. It feels like I have tried everything. Please help

Some of the people I follow have completely disappeared from the activities tab. At first i couldn't see only a few of them but now most of them are gone, i can see only 2 of the 30 people i follow. I asked a couple of them to check if their "show followers listening activity" was on and it was, so there's definitely some issue here.  Please tell me how i need to fix this.

Surely it makes no sense because if someone didn't want their listening activity shared they could either use a private session or simply delete that friend

So it just removes a unique feature from a non existent problem

no, your solution didn't work please work on the issue to resolve it from your end as you should!

Click the 3 dots upper left hand corner. Click view then click friend activity.  This will bring back the friends activity pane but still will not work showing them.  Please fix this!!!

Hope you're doing great!

Have you tried with a different network connection on your device?

Is any of your friends able to see your activity on Spotify?

Since you mentioned you tested this on 2 devices, could you check this article for Windows and this one for macOS?

Also, what are the exact Spotify and macOS/Windows versions running on the devices you tested them on?

If you can, try using a different Spotify account to see if the same thing happens with it too.

Your friends should be able to see your activity if you have turned it on.

Just ask them to turn it on their end as well so you can see their activity on the sidebar. To learn more about Friend Activity I'd suggest checking this support article.

I have also tried everything I could think of to fix it but no progress. The list was not updating and now more and more people are disappearing. This was such good way to explore new music or just see what others are listening to, can't believe it has been taken away. Spotify has been taking too many Ls recently. Not happy.

I went from a perfectly fine app - to this, just by a simple relog. 
I've disconnected and reconnected my Facebook, I've relogged several times. I've reinstalled Spotify. 
Nothing works.
I had all my friends and their activity right there before my relog. It all disappeared after I relogged. 

Please, fix this.

Hey there folks,

Here are a few things to try in order to get your friends to show up on your Friend Activity:

• Make sure you're running the latest version of the Spotify app. Spotify clients version 1.1.58 and older won't allow this feature.
• Log out and back in twice in a row. This will force synchronizing your account with the servers.
• Make sure that the following settings are turned ON - Settings> Display > See what your friends are playing and Settings> Social > Share my listening activity on Spotify.
• Make sure your friends have those settings turned ON as well. They might need to switch the settings on / off a couple of times for this information to update.
• Make sure that Private Session is switched OFF on your account and your friends accounts.
• Your friends have to listen to at least 30 sec of a song for their listening activity to be share. Private Session needs to be OFF.

If that doesn't work, try unfollowing a friend's profile then following them back. After that, restart your computer.

The same to me since yesterday...even the people I used to see who have activity turned on no longer appear. Since December and spotify only gets worse 😞

This isn't fixed. I cannot see the music played by people I follow or my Facebook friends. Which have set their activity to share.
This feature is not an improvement and it is not working how you envisioned it.

I am following personal accounts from artists who aren't my friends on Facebook but within Spotify. Their music choices inspire me to listen to new/other music.
YOU REMOVED THAT FUNCTION.
I am telling you to improve/revert this function.
