Spotify is logged in somwhere else...

Solved!

Spotify is logged in somwhere else...

I have a Premium family account, with two users on it.

On my own (the primary account), I'm using spotify on my Mac, on an iPad, my iPhone and through Logitech Media centre on my home music server. The LMS is the main method for accessing spotify, with the iPhone being the one used next most (for car use).

Thesw last couple of weeks, Spotify has started having problems. The Logitech Media centre has problems with reliable playback, so that it will play a little of a song, skip to the next, a little of that one, skip to then next and so on. I've been thinking this is due to either high server load or problems with my internet connection.

Now, I've started to get the message that I'm logged into somewhere else, and then Spotify stops playing. I'm then forced to go into the web page and log out everywhere, and then log in just the device I'm using. It first popped up on the phone in my car, about 10 days ago, and today it happened on the mac in my office.

What's actually going on here? I haven't had this problem until the last couple of weeks, and I've had these devices logged into spotify for several years without any of these problems...

@Fenalaar hey there johan, sorry about that, that's a long issue, i'll try to provide you with troubleshooting steps to solve all of them:

for the first:

  • deleting the local cache can be done using this: http://www.freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/
  • sign out on all devices through here.
  • update the logitech software
  • restart your computer before re-installing the spotify app

let me know if that helps!

@Fenalaar for the second issue, it sounds as though there's a local data corruption on one of your devices,

the most likely solution for that issue is to delete the caches on those devices, uninstalling the app, retsarting the devices and then re-installing it

if that doesn't resolve the issue, you can contact spotify support at: support@spotify.com, they can ascertain if there is an issue on their end which may have been caused by many devices accessing the account simultaneously!

hope that resolves your issues, and keep in touch as you troubleshoot!

Neither of the problems has shown up lately - it seems like complaining about it here worked 😉

For the skipping problem, I'm still looking around. I think it may be load related  - either with the spotify servers or the local connection, and it shows up on all my devices. It's not really a big problem, as I have a large collection of ripped CDs on my server. If that fails, I can play vinyl or dig out the boxes or CDs from the basement.

I reinstalled the app on the iPhone at about the same time as I complained, so it may very well be that that was the solution.
