My Question or Issue

I'm trying to listen to some podcasts on my phone but realized that when I signed up somehow Spotify listed my country as "Venezuela RB". I live in the U.S. and want to change it to the correct country. Unfortunately, the country portion of the account is greyed out so I can't even attempt to change it back to the U.S.

 

I just want to clarify that I've never been the Venezuela and I'm not even sure how my account changed to that country in the first place. When I signed up for my account I was in Phoenix, Arizona in a hotel lol. Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance.

If your account is showing the wrong country, it’s usually because of the payment method you’re using for your subscription right now. Spotify links your account’s country setting to the billing country of the payment method on file.

 

If you're on Free, you should be able to manually update your country setting by heading to your account page and selecting the correct country from the dropdown menu (this shows up after Spotify detects that you’ve been in a different country for more than 14 days).

 

If you're on Premium, the only way to change the country is by updating your payment method to one that was issued in the country you’re currently in. You can find all the steps and more info about this here.

I used the US version of PayPal and my card is US based as well... Not sure how that got mixed up with Venezuela...

Thanks for the update!

 

In that case, I’d recommend trying to change the payment method on your account page to your US-based card directly. That should update the country setting along with it.

 

If that doesn’t work for some reason, you can cancel your current subscription, wait until the account reverts to the free plan, update your country setting, and then re-subscribe using your PayPal account.

 

Just a heads-up though—PayPal accounts are also tied to a specific country and that can’t be changed. If your current PayPal was created elsewhere, it might not work. In that case, creating a new PayPal account registered in the US or using a different payment method would be the way to go.
