too many commercials

my account for some reason is giving more commercials - an amount that i have never experienced before. i listen to 1 song, i get a commercial or the 30 min break option. sometimes i need to pause it because of my commute before the 30 mins are over. so when i listen again, i get 1 song and again i get a commercial - so i don't really get the 30 min commercial break. it is very annoying and i've partially moved to amazon music because of this but obviously want to listen to more spotify. was thinking maybe there's an issue with my account? i'm getting the most commercials i've ever experienced.
