[Android][Podcasts] Spotify pause button does not respond during playback

This happens about twice or three times a day while listening to podcasts or music.

I will be able to start playback, but the progress bar in spotify will not move despite the audio playing. I will not be able to pause playback, and trying to skip ahead or back will return the playback to where i originally started the audio for the session.

I will need to close the spotify app, reopen it, close it again, then re open it a second time to return playback to normal functionality. 

This happens regardless of what headphones are used on my device (samsung galaxy s10+) and has been happening for a few weeks now, 2 or 3 timea a day. I have tried re-installing spotify but the problem persists.
