[Android] Troubleshooting Spotify

[Android] Troubleshooting Spotify

Having trouble with Spotify on your Android device? Here’s a step-by-step guide to help get things working again.

What to try first

  1. Try a soft reset (reboot the device).
  2. If that doesn’t help, try a clean reinstall. Be sure to locate and remove any Spotify folders or cached data from your device before reinstalling again.
  3. If that doesn’t work, update your device’s firmware (if available).
  4. If that doesn’t work, try clearing your device’s cache.
  5. If that doesn’t work, try using a different WiFi connection (please note that streaming dover mobile data might incur additional charges). If this works you probably need to restart your router.
  6. If that doesn’t work, try removing the SD card (if your device has one) and try again. If this works you might need to format your SD card.
  7. If that doesn’t work, ask a friend or family member who also uses Spotify to log in to their account on your device. If everything works for them it’s likely the issue is with your account. If not, then it’s probably an issue with your device.

Community help

If basic troubleshooting didn’t help, the Community might have the answer. Here’s how to ask the Community for help:

  1. First, try entering your issue into the search bar to see if there’s an existing thread about it. Remember to try a few different iterations in case someone refers to it a different way to you, i.e. Download > Offline > Internet connection, etc.
  2. If you can’t find anything via search, create a new thread, taking care to clearly title and explain your issue as best you can. Remember to include any information you think might be relevant, such as:
    • Your device’s make, model, and operating system.
    • The version of Spotify you’re using.
    • What steps you’ve tried already.

Hopefully someone will reply shortly after with some helpful advice.

Try this:

  • Log out of Spotify and restart your device
  • Log into Spotify once again and make sure you are connected to the same Wi-Fi network on both your device and your computer
  • Change the sync quality on your device to "High" or "Extreme"
  • Locate the playlist on your phone, and select "Download Playlist"
  • Make sure you have plenty of free space on your device (we'd recommend 1GB+)

If Spotify is crashing or stopping midway through a track, try the following:

-- Restart your phone (remove the battery for 30 seconds if possible).

-- Connect to a different network and see if the problems persist.

-- Perform a clean reinstallation.

To store offline playlists on your Android SD card, follow these steps:

-- Make sure there’s more free space on your SD card than in your internal storage.

-- Perform a clean reinstallation.

-- Spotify will then automatically sync to the storage with more available space.
