Android Widget Removal

We’re here to let you know that we are retiring the Spotify Widget for Android this week. 

We always take retiring features in Spotify very seriously. We’re pouring our energy into new ways of creating the best experience for our users.

You can still easily access the same playback features as well as information about what is playing through the Spotify playback notification and device lockscreen.

To access the playback controls on Android simply swipe down while you are using Spotify to access the controls.

If you’re interested in learning more about how the app evolves, check out our article about testing and why features change.

We’re also welcome to feedback from our users. The best way to give us feedback to is to write an Idea in our Idea Exchange.

Removing the widget was the worst idea ever! I'm cancelling my family subscription and using something else instead. I'll come back when the widgets are back.

Provding the best experience is removing something thousands of people use everday? What's the next "improvement"? Removing the music too? You did it because it means less overhead between platforms and you're lazy. Just admit it.

I see Google Music still have a widget, perhaps it's time to move to them if Spotify can't sort this out...

I was trying and find a better way. Add a widget app free now it's works and is nice look😀 til they add it back this works

You can move your playlist from Spotify to Google music... I did it now... Spotify is now dead to me...

Hello!

Your copy-pasted-rhetoric here shows your PR and Marketing teams are profoundly out of touch with what customers want. Word choice like 'Evolution' sounds peachy, but removing the Widget is a complete subtraction;  you're not kidding anyone.

It sounds like your Intern wrote this on the last 5 minutes of a work day. If you're really removing the widget for a good reason, tell us what it is.

In the mean time, I'll be deleting the app and this account and switching permanently to Pandora before badmouthing you on Reddit for the next month until it hits the Top Trending Page.

If you're a PR staffer forced into the menial task of reading this, don't both with the**bleep** company-approved apology.

If there were complaints about the widget, why not address the problems and fix it rather than deleting it altogether? 

Personally I didn't have any issues at all with it. I've literally set up an account here to complain about it being deleted.

We're talking about people who removed the option of viewing your library by artist.

It's to the point where it seems like they want to lose customers on purpose
