Android Widget Removal

We’re here to let you know that we are retiring the Spotify Widget for Android this week. 

We always take retiring features in Spotify very seriously. We’re pouring our energy into new ways of creating the best experience for our users.

You can still easily access the same playback features as well as information about what is playing through the Spotify playback notification and device lockscreen.

To access the playback controls on Android simply swipe down while you are using Spotify to access the controls.

We’re also welcome to feedback from our users. The best way to give us feedback to is to write an Idea in our Idea Exchange.

What was the purpose of removing it really? If we wanted a blank space we wouldn't use the widget, if we wanted iOS format we'd have an iphone, if we wanted to be ripped off paying for a below par service we'd go on public transport. 

Seriously! Bring back the widget and 'find in playlist' drag down optio . What is going on with spotify these days?!

Why am I having to vote to get something considered that was ALREADY in the app and removed without any explanation. 

This whole fiasco got me to look at Deezer, which I just signed up for a premium membership. I am cancelling my subscription -- what a mistake to push users to think to consider other options. You are hardly the only name in the game.

Ridiculous to remove an ease of use feature that I'm sure mose users use and then claim you are pouring your energy into customer experience.  Really terrible idea whoever proposed this one.  Was the widget too difficult for you to maintain?  Is there a real, technical reason for removal or just another bad idea?  

Also, the solution of voting for someone's post "proposing" a widget....   really?  We already had one, this is not a new idea.  

We want the widget back please!

It takes a lot for me to summon the energy to log in and moan about something online these days. Well done Spotify you've reached the threshold. Whoever made the decision to go with this removal should be removed from having any effect on customer experience ever again, it is brutally stupid, ill-researched and needlessly antagonistic to your customer base.

Very frustrated that this widget was removed.  Like many others, I use this widget multiple times a day.  I don't understand why this feature was removed.  I've voted to reinstate the widget, so hopefully that movement goes somewhere.

WHY THOUGH?! Super annoying. Like the others, I used my widget allday, everyday. Why do things have to keep changing for no apparent reason??

I dont like this change, give back the widget. The heart button on top bar is not working since the widget disappeared.

That's some **bleep**, it was already a feature, and an optional one at that.  Why remove it in the first place.  Reminds me of when Samsung removed the SD card slot.  Quickly found out that that was a dumb **bleep** idea.  Why take away a feature that so many people used, and could easily be removed by the ones that didn't (which, judging by the responses, wasn't a lot of people). Seriously... Like I said before, Spotify has a lot of nice features and WAS more appealing to use, but if this feature is t back by my re-up date, I'm gone...

While I get another music service organised I went back a few versions and got my widget back. No more Spotify app updates for me.

What a terrible idea. I'm a premium subscriber and I have only accessed via the widget. It was great. I can't imagine why retiring it is a good idea!

You guys are really lazy, no new features, just UI reorganizations and feature removal the last year. Don't even start me on the desktop app... JavaScript electron garbage

Did you ask the community before you just decided to remove the widget feature??  Or did you have some kind of poll to see who actually uses the widget??  No, you sure didn't or else we wouldn't all be here posting about how horrible the idea was to remove it.  If you said something like we're in the process up upgrading and or enhancing the widget...  then maybe we would be more understanding.  But even then, you have the new upgrade ready and in place before you'd remove the current one.

Bring the widget back, it's absurd that you removed it in the first place... something EVERYONE uses who has the app.

I would like to publicly thank spotify for doing this, cause this way I was able to find a widget even better than the original, it's called Ubiquity.
