My Question or Issue

I've been using spotify to stream to my NAD C338 via spotify connect for couple of years now.

Recently it stopped working - only google cast option is currently available on the newest spotify app.

As a part of troubleshooting I downloaded older spotify APKs and installed on my android phone to see if it helps - it did! The latest version of spotify app which shows spotify connect option to my NAD is 9.0.78.1116, starting from version 9.0.82.1008 the spotify connect is not available, just google cast.

Can the app be fixed so that I have spotify connect option back available on my NAD C338 please?

I do not see that is resolved for me. Initially, three dots appeared behind my JBL device and my Wiim. After streaming with Spotify Connect, the three dots disappeared and only Spotify Connect is announced from that device, which is finally ok.

On my Wiim Device, after Restart on Google cast appears and it's not persistent with that device. Also after hitting the 3 dots  the wiim there is no choice between cast and connect.

At least for me not solved.

I have  v9.1.42.2058 too, but no change for me, the issue is still there. I don't have the three dots and only have google cast as an option, unless I disconnect from my wifi. In that case it connects with Spotify Connect and it's lossless.

I installed version 9.1.42.1595 and issue was fixed, after upgrading to 9.1.42.2058 from google play store... issue came back. Reverted to 9.1.42.1595 as it seems to be the newest version that works.

I have 2 Wiim devices and for both no Spotify Connect option shows up. I have v9.1.42.2058 and really hope one of the next updates solves the issue.

I just turn off ChromeCast on my WIIMs.

Guess I'll just stick with 9.1.42.1595 for now!

I finally got a working fix for my setup. Thought I’d share this in case it helps someone else. I’ve tested it for several days across multiple phone reboots, network reboots, and app restarts. Spotify Connect is now stable again. I am using version 9.1.42.2058

This fix is for WiiM users and may also help other Android users whose devices are stuck showing only “Google Cast” instead of Spotify Connect.

Here are the steps that worked for me:

Step 1 — Toggle Google Cast ON - OFF on your WiiM device

Open WiiM Home
Go to Device Settings - Google Cast
Enable Google Cast (I have 2 WiiM devices so i did this on both)
Then turn it OFF again

This forces Android to rebuild its Cast device list.

Step 2 — Disable Android’s Cast remote control notifications

On your Android phone:
Go to Settings - Google - All Services - Cast options
Turn OFF “Media Control Notifications”

I rebooted my phone and i have not seen the Google Cast option since. Everything is back to using Spotify Connect

I appreciate the effort of the elaborate post, but I would not call it a fix if we need to disable some of the core functionally of our streaming devices and phones.

With the Spotify app version 9.1.42.1595, everything is working as expected.

In the Spotify app I can choose Spotify Connect, all while the Chromecast service still running on the WiiM. So it can still be found by my Google Home speakers to start playback using voice commands. Best of both worlds 🙂

I installed 9.1.42.1595 and everything is working as it should... I guess I'll stick to this version until there is a newer version that works too

I had disabled automatic updates, but manually allowed the app to update to 9.1.46.1922 as a test.

Happy to report this is working as well!

I can confirm this. Spotify 9.1.46.1922 version let you choose between cast options.

In my case with 9.1.46.1922 the three dots don't work, it opens a window that closes immediately, so I can't choose between Spotify connect or Chromecast.

That said, the only choice I have with this version is Spotify connect, which is ok. I don't know if that is the case because I could set it up as the default with the previous version I had installed (9.1.42.1595).

After reinstalling 9.1.46.1922 and clearing cache and data out if curiosity, I don't have the three dots anymore, and the only choice offered is Spotify connect

Version 9.1.44.2120 from Google play also works, three dots with choice between Google Cast and Spotify connect are present.

Yes, I tested version 9.1.44.2120 and confirmed ok for selecting between Soptify connect and Google cast. I hope that the Spotify development team don't forget to keep the fixed coding in next version.

Thank you.

Works for me too on 9.1.44.2120

Hello everyone and thank you for posting in the thread.

As of April 28th, the option to choose between Google Cast and Spotify Connect for dual-protocol devices has been reinstated. You'll find it in the device context menu (the three dots next to a device name in the Connect picker), with three options:

  1. Auto
  2. Spotify Connect
  3. Google Cast

A few things worth knowing:

  • It's confirmed to be working in version 9.1.42.2058 and later. Some of you have already confirmed that it also works with versions 9.1.44.2120 and 9.1.46.1922. Thanks for the testing!
  • Choosing Google Cast disables lossless on that stream.
  • Choosing Spotify Connect disables multi-room playback via Google's Output Switcher.

If you're on a recent version and still don't see the three-dot menu, drop a reply here with:

  • The exact Spotify app version (go to Settings > About).
  • Your phone's make, model and Android version.
  • The device you're casting to (brand and model).
  • Whether you're on the same Wi-Fi as the device, or on cellular/VPN.

Appreciate your patience while this was being looked into. Cheers!

Hello,

I confirm that it works with 9.1.46.1934

91.44.2120 still doesn't offer the option on my Galaxy S25. I am on the same network as my Onkyo Amplifier, it defaults to Chromecast with no three dot option.

9.1.52.1394 on Galaxy S25 Ultra, and it does not work on Google Nest Hub or Google Nest Speakers. All devices are on the same network. I also have an iPad (7th gen), and I am having the same issue.
