My Question or Issue
Why is the download option gone for individual songs, I have to download the entire album or playlist now? Why limit what brings customers to Spotify? False advertising.
Hey, welcome to the community, and thanks for your post. I was browsing through idea submissions and came across this post, which the Spotify team updated a little over a year ago indicating a lack of plans to implement this type of feature unfortunately. In addition to downloading playlists and albums, I would just note that it's also possible to download all the songs that have been saved to your library. Sorry I'm unable to offer another solution at the moment but your feedback is appreciated!
Also, just curious, is this something that you are saying you had access to at one point that has since disappeared?
Thank you for your response, I appreciate it. To answer your question, yes it was an option that was available to me up until the recent software updates to Spotify.
Hey @DocD53.
Thanks for getting back to us.
We can confirm that this is now expected behaviour in the mobile app.
What you can do instead is to add the individual songs you want to download to a separate playlist and download the playlist. Or, you could also save the song(s), and they'll then appear in your Liked Songs playlist, which can also be downloaded.
Hope that helps! Let us know if you have any further questions 😉
I'm also disappointed by this change to libraries. Previously I could set all the songs in my library to download and then the phone app would automatically download tracks in newly saved albums and automatically remove the download of album tracks that I removed from the library. I particularly liked that I could add or remove albums from the desktop client and the downloaded tracks would be managed on my phone without me having to do anything else.
Now I have to manually manage this. I either have to go through all of my saved albums and individually set them to download, which is tedious. Or I have to laboriously manage a playlist of all of the tracks in all of my saved albums, adding to and removing from it as I save and unsave albums, so that I can have that playlist set to download.
I would really like to get back the ability to have saved album tracks automatically download. Maybe with an option to have saved albums default to download? This option for playlists would be great too.
I've submitted an idea: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Idea-Submissions/Android-Music-Automatically-manage-downloading-sav.... I don't have much hope anything will be done but let's see.
