Hey,
I'm using a Spotify Premium account on my android device.
Every time I try to play an album on the app it automatically chooses to use shuffle.
I know that I need to avoid clicking the big 'Shuffle Play' button and press on a specific song on the album instead, but it still automatically shuffles the album.
Then I need to press on the green arrows things on the buttom so it can be played by order.
And I need to do that every time I want to listen to an album. Imagine how annoying it is.
How do I circumvent this?
Thanks,
Fae.
Hey folks,
Thanks for your posts in the Community.
Currently, if the Shuffle option is enabled by you or any other party, like the Google Clock app or any external device, it'll stay on for the rest of your playback until you manually turn it off.
We understand where you're coming from and we'll make sure to pass your feedback on to the teams in charge.
You can also ad your +Vote to this idea if you find it useful. Even though the status is Closed, it's still open for voting.
Cheers!
Hey there @grapesmc,
Thanks for reaching out about this.
Would you mind letting us know which troubleshooting steps you've already tried? This will help us give you better suggestions.
In case you haven't, we'd recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app in order to remove any cache that might be causing trouble.
Keep us posted on how it goes.
I think user @Mufallo was correct. I was able to replicate this problem by doing the following:
1. I have a Google Pixel 2 running the latest software. My version of Spotify has the latest update. I have also done a clean uninstall but this has not solved the problem permanently, only temporarily.
2. I turned off Shuffle from the play screen in my Spotify app.
3. I set an alarm using my native Clock app and chose a Spotify playlist for its sound.
4. When the alarm started, I dismissed it.
5. I opened the Spotify app and played the first song from a random album.
6. I went to the play screen and confirmed that Spotify had automatically set itself to shuffle without me manually tapping the shuffle button.
The short term solution seems to be that if you do not want Spotify to automatically shuffle your songs after a Spotify linked alarm has gone off, you need to use only native sounds for your alarm clock, which is frustrating.
There appears to be no way to choose to not shuffle your Spotify alarm. Previous agents have recommended unlinking the Spotify app from the alarm app, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do this.
Sounds like a bug to me. Or at least an unintended feature: an automatic shuffle related to your Spotify linked alarm for which there is no override nor an ability to select an option for the alarm to not shuffle.
Hey @mallowbaby89,
Thanks for posting - we’re here to help!
In case the clean reinstall managed to solve this only temporarily for you it's a good idea to check if this might be related to your Spotify account or the specific setup of your device.
If possible, try logging in to a different Spotify account on the device in use. You can borrow the login details from a friend or relative, or simply create a free account by following the steps listed here. If it works with another account, you can follow the steps in this Spotify Answer next.
In case logging in to another account makes no difference, try logging in to your Spotify account on another device. If it doesn't occur on a different device, we'd suggest making sure that your original device is up-to-speed with any software updates available.
Looking forward to your reply. Enjoy your day!
Hi there @Wildorange,
Thank you for your post and feedback.
We ask you to do these troubleshooting steps since you should have the option to not shuffle.
However, if you think your suggestion will appeal to other users you can always create an idea on the relevant idea board. We always take new ideas and feedback into consideration to improve the app.
You can read more about how your feedback reaches Spotify here.
Once again - thanks for the feedback, we appreciate it. Let us know if we can help you with anything else.
Take care!
The problem is this...I go to a playlist or album, click on the first song, believing that the playlist will be played in order. I do not select shuffle play. I am dismayed to hear that after the first song, a totally different song plays to what I was expecting. I go to check what has happened and it seems the Spotify app has automatically selected shuffle play and repeat all as shown in my screenshot. This has been happening for a few months and is increasingly irritating especially as I put effort into the order of songs in my lists or am listening to an album, and particularly when driving because I have to pull over to turn the setting off, otherwise my drive is ruined. Please for the love of god, fix this bug! I have an Android phone if that makes any difference. I've not tried the reset as I've read replies that this doesn't help. Keen to hear a reply.
Dear Magnolia,
I worked with Spotify. It’s intended to do so, so no bug in the POV of Spotify. The contracts with the artists are like this: they get more royalties if the user plays their songs in the order the album was recorded (intended by the artist). With this “bug” Spotify safes****bleep**** load of money!
please MODs stop tagging this as solved and sending nonsense reinstalling answers.
just drop your pants and say that if the users wanting a solution they should move to apple HD music or deezer…
Cheers!
@Peter, @Alex, @Ivan, @moderator (how do you ping those guys?)
Any response?
Yes! This is exactly what happens for me. Phone alarm plays Spotify in shuffle. Then, later in the day, the next thing I play is also shuffled.
It appears that shuffle is a global setting within Spotify, whereas it should be playlist or album specific. Just because shuffle is enabled on one playlist, it doesn't mean I want to listen to everything in Spotify on shuffle.
Hey folks,
Thanks for your messages.
We can get this reported to the teams in charge. Would you mind sending over your device's make, model, exact OS version and the exact Spotify version you're currently running?
It would also be super helpful to have a screen recording where we can see how things appear on your end, in case you haven't sent it yet. You can send a link to it or attach it using the Insert Video option in the post editor.
Lastly, can you confirm if this is only happening after the alarm? The more info we gather, the better.
We'll be on the lookout for your replies.
Xperia 5 II (XQ-AS52)
Android 10 (58.0.A.21.1)
Spotify 8.6.32.925
Not sure if it's happening ONLY after the alarm, but alarm IS a sure way to reproduce it. I've re-recorded the video like 4 times because of things I didn't want to show on public, but every time it worked.
Hey folks,
Thanks for the info 🙂
Could you check if the same thing happens when you disable the google clock temporarily in the settings > apps? Does this occur also without the interaction?
Keep us in the loop.
Hey.
On many devices it's the only clock application. It wouldn't make sense to disable it.
You have a way to reproduce the issue with a video proof, what else do you need? You have your own team of QA specialists, don't you?
You're wasting time (as this forum tries to waste mine - 5-step captcha with 30 seconds expiration, while I have white IP address; different errors instead of posting the answer, auto-saving, which doesn't work in this particular case)
I don't have rigorous reproduction info but can confirm it also happens on Windows 10, Windows 11 and MacOS 11.4.
Where in our accounts is there a "turn on shuffle AND repeat without me asking for it" setting? And if such a setting did exist, when and why was it added? And could we please have a "never shuffle or repeat" option?
I agree with the other posters here that a) something changed on your end, be it server or client side, as evidenced by the diversity of platforms and versions afflicted; b) you're not taking the issue seriously enough; and c) your responses are frustrating.
We're not just paying you for the music, we're also paying you for the service and support. Please escalate this issue sufficiently to resolve it this year.
Also your reCAPTCHA is obnoxiously and unnecessarily frequent.
Hey there you, Yeah, you! 😁 Welcome - we're glad you joined the Spotify Community! While you here, let's have a fun game and get…
