My Question or Issue
Usually, when clicking on the Like button (circled '+') on the notification widget that appears when playing a song, it adds that song to the "Liked Songs" playlist.
However, when coming from a shared playlist, if a song that someone else added is playing, clicking like button from the notification widget adds it again to that same playlist, which is surely not what's wanted.
I believe it comes from a misunderstanding from the feature of quickly adding a smart shuffle recommendation to a playlist we own.
Moreover (this part is more a suggestion/my opinion) I don't believe that the Like button on the notification widget should ever do something else than adding/removing the song to the Liked Songs. If I'm correct and the adding a recommendation to the current playlist is indeed an intended feature, I think the UI for the button should at least change: people can switch from their phone to their car, pick up the last song/playlist playing without paying attention after not listening for a day,... and they can forget they are in the specific case of "they were listening to a recommendation in their own playlist", which changes the behaviour of the like song button. I strongly believe a "quick button" (as wanted from a notification widget) should not change its behavior based on some very specific case in the background.
Hey @Nethcreed,
Welcome to the Spotify Community!
I'm unable to reproduce this on my end. By a shared playlist, you mean collaborative, right? Could you check if disabling/enabling Smart Shuffle for the playlist has any effect on this? It's also worth performing a clean reinstall of the app - this will rule out any potential issues with corrupted cache and ensure you're running the latest version of Spotify. If possible, try logging in on another device to see if the behavior is still the same.
In case the issue persists, please share a short screen recording which captures the described behavior in action so we can take a direct look at what's happening on your end.
Cheers 🤘
Hi @Yordan,
Sorry I didn't see you responded.
Yes, it is in a collaborative playlist. I've tried reinstalling the app, but it doesn't solve the issue. The smartshuffle isn't activated in my test (I would understand adding the smart shuffle suggestion to the current playlist, but this is different). I don't really have access to another device up to date to try it.
I can't upload the video here so here's a Google photo link: https://photos.app.goo.gl/pYC9sSwCaBPZXLGYA
You'll see in the first part that I 'like' (with the '+') the current song from the app itself: working good, it adds the song to my "Liked songs" playlist.
In the second part, I 'like' the current song from the notification widget: the song is added to the same playlist I'm listening to (the collaborative playlist) (the song is thus twice in the playlist) -> inconsistent with the app behavior and actually not wanted (who wants the same song twice by liking it?).
Thanks for your response, hoping to hear from you soon 😄
Hey there @Nethcreed,
Thanks for your detailed answer.
We really appreciate the time you took to let us know about this. We could replicate this behavior on our side, so we went ahead and passed this important info onto the right team. Would you mind sending us the exact Spotify version you're running as per today?
We'll be on the lookout for your reply!
Hello,
I'm running Spotify version 8.9.90.127.
I hope it will help you resolve this issue soon.
Be aware that I think the same issue applies for other devices: if I remember correctly, I couldn't add a song that I was listening from the collaborative playlist to my liked song from the "Like" shortcut in my car (native app, no Android Auto, Tesla Model 3). But that I'm not sure of.
Hey @Nethcreed,
Thanks for your patience while we looked into this.
We've heard from our teams that this issue should be fixed now. We'd suggest keeping your app updated so you don't miss out on any developments.
The Community will be here if anything else comes up.
Cheers!
