Low volume on Android app

Low volume on Android app

The sound is incredibly quiet in the Android app. I have to put the volume at 100% if I want to get the same volume I'd get playing the same song at 60% volume in Google Play or my phone's native music app. Is there a fix for this? I find it disappointing considering that I am paying for this.

Same problem here.

No fix yet?!

Despite Spotify's several canned responses, it wasn't Normalizing the volume, it wasn't the Crossfade, it wasn't the Download/Streaming quality setting, and uninstalling and reinstalling didn't help.

It was the Equalizer.

My old phone - Samsung Galaxy S7 - had not only an Equalizer, but also the "Customized Audio", which is evidently a Samsung-only product. Which I thought was great, btw! I wish Spotify would license that, or that Android would. My Pixel 2 XL only had a basic Equalizer, which I immediately activated and customized to my preferred settings. When I turned it off, the volume went back to as loud as I wanted it to be; when I turned it on, it immediately dropped by about 20% and sounded overall muted. Which is why other music services didn't have the same problem.

I can live without the Equalizer, but I'm thinking of downloading one since there are several out there that are supposed to be very good. Of course the problem may recur, so I'll decide then.

Does anyone have a third-party Equalizer app they would recommend?

I just took the suggestion of setting 'Normalize Volume' to off and made sure streaming was set to 'Extreme Quality', then restarted and it seems to have worked.  After making those changes, I compared the volume with Amazon Music and local files on the phone and it seems fine.  I'll continue validate, thanks for the suggestion.

Also having the same issue!

No eq, no normalization, best quality, .... Volume still low I had to max out both the phone and my HK Omni 10. Is this Android **bleep** or Spotify?

This was now because Bluetooth. I unpaired all devices, cleansed some cache and voila neighbors happy again. Solved for me.

Check more songs, seems to easy

I looked up on Google "spotify low volume" and got to this thread.

The option in the advanced prefrences "set the same volume level for all songs" does absolutely nothing. I notice no difference in volume level except for the fact that it is VERY quiet. I'm not sure if this was a problem before, as I've only recently noticed it.

It's obvious that EVERYONE is experiencing the same issues. Seems the developers are trying to give us the runaround by asking operating system, device, etc...etc...

I am subscribed to premium, love the sound quality, and the syncing ability between PC, Android and Chromecast.

However seeing how obvious it is that Spotify does nothing to help it's customers, is very disappointing.

I'm about to download TIDAL and start a free trial. Hoping it's better than Spotify.

To Spotify: You will end up losing customers over your inability to simply reply to them even to say "we are looking into it, be patient". By being silent you only reinforce the opinion of people that you do not care what they think or what their issues are.

Good luck everyone.

Can confirm I've canceled spotify premium today and made the switch to apple music, fixed the 'volume problem' immediately!!

Shame really as everything else about Spotify is fautless ime

Also had a lot of friends do the same since they've recently all got Samsung S8 and this seems to be an android problem, everybody is jumping off the iphone boat and running into this problem

It's not really about Spotify.

I also have Tidal, both same very quiet even at Max volume.

Then I decide to try at IOS device, booommm, that sound amazed me.

So.... I'm not really sure.

Android = OPPO F5

IOS = IPHONE 6

1 more think, for sound quality I choose Spotify.

Try with iOS device, then u will know why.

Nah nah nah, it's an issue on android, no one will switch phone when they could just switch app for an instant fix, I am about to ditch Spotify myself.. it doesn't have enough kick

Up to u bruh...

Just tell the truth.

SoundCloud & local works well again android but not Spotify & Tidal.

Both I try with same headphones.

Play spotify through ps4 works as charm as well.

Latest update.

Going back to Apple Music, because works well with both platform

EDIT: this was supposed to have quoted an earlier message about not needing music louder and protecing ear drums...

That's not the point. For me, Spotify is a good 40% quieter than everything else in my car; I don't necessarily want the music louder, I want the app to the be the same as everything else so I don't deafen or **bleep** myself when a traffic alert pops on or if I switch to another source.

Hi . I listened to Metallica last night on USB stick through stereo with headphones.  I didn't use Spotify. I love Spotify but I need "decibels" when I listen to metal. That goes for Megadeth also !

Ok, work in progress I hope. It's bad for business when volume is an issue. Spotify rocks !

I've managed to boost spotify a bit in my car via bluetooth by using RE EQ, an eqauliser app. It's bad practice but I've boosted the input gain by about 6dB and have adjusted the EQ curve slightly to lower the middle tones, as my car only has bass and treble control.

Not ideal, but it works so far.  I use Klisch X10 IEMs and spotify at 50% even without the RE EQ app is still more than loud enough so it seems that spotify via bluetooth is the issues for me.

I agree my download on my computer is also very low. I wanted to see if it was my computer... but netflix and youtube and other apps all work it is just Spotify. I went on the web player to see if that worked and it did. So it might just be the app that has a problem.

Hi, I am using Pixel 2 XL with latest Jan security update (Android 8.1.1). When I use the WH1000XM2 via bluetooth (LDAC):

1. The volume is much lower than Google Play Music and other apps even though I have disabled "Normalize Volume" and I am not using any EQs. Tracks are downloaded at Extreme Quality.

2. Skipping forward and backward for tracks does not work for Spotify but does work everywhere else.

Can you please help me Spotify?

I thought it was just me too. I have been experience this since I’ve had spotify. And it’s been years. Apple Music always sounded louder in my car, my iPhone. I figured the issue was the spotify app and this forum just confirmed that. I just started that 3 months free trial with Apple music once I realized they were about the same price and I think I might switch up. It **bleep** because I actually enjoy spotify since it’s easier to use and offers a lot more I think. But that low volume thing kills it for me. I feel like I’m missing out on Music quality because of it.
