My Question or Issue
I'm trying to figure out how to keep Spotify playing in the background when I open another app that wants access to my phone's audio.
Specifically, when I view a video on twitter or YouTube in the Edge or Chrome browsers, Spotify stops, and the audio for the video clip takes over as the only audio being outputted. This is especially frustrating when it's a site that autoplays (and sometimes ads will be the culprit).
Is there a setting somewhere (either Android, or Spotify, or browser) that would help me?
Solved! Go to Solution.
How the **bleep** did that actually help thank you so much
This is a s***t answer.
I want to run Spotify in the background, on BT speakers via my phone and work on the phone. Every audio file, video etc just stops!
You are telling me in 2022, on a top end phone and paying over £10 a month, that this can't be fixed?
This is utter BS. I'm so sick of psychophantic mods and "experts" spouting the party line and being as effective as a wet kit kat.
This should be an easy fix.
It doesn't happen on amazon music. It doesn't happen on tunein, audible, soundcloud etc.
Spotify has stopped being new, fresh and innovative and has taken the middle of the road, shareholder appeasing wet blanket.
Shame. You may as well be an add on to MS365.
This answer cannot be correct because the audio does not stop when Instagram videos are unmuted, it’s the only app where Spotify does not cut out. Unfortunately not very good for people who want other options- what is it that Instagram has that Spotify can work with but other apps can’t? Is this something we can then use?
How dare you say this is solved. This isn't a solution, it's another way of saying "it is what it is".
I also hate this property of Spotify. I might even switch to YouTube Music because I can't fully enjoy my experience, and I don't think i pay for what i get.
It sounds like you're encountering a common issue with audio interruptions on Android. When you open apps that use audio, they can take priority over Spotify. To address this, you can try going into your phone's settings and looking for the "App Permissions" section. From there, you can manually adjust which apps have access to your phone's audio. Additionally, consider checking the audio settings within the Edge and Chrome browsers to see if there are options to prioritize Spotify or limit other apps' audio access. If the problem persists, you might want to explore alternative music streaming options like YouTube Music Premium Vanced APK, which could potentially provide a more seamless experience.
Other apps can do it. Don't give this cop out response
Can I get help with this issue? Seeings as it’s 2023 and many ppls paid monthly subscriptions later this inconveniencing issue of music stoping when we open another app, should be solved. Also YES I have tried all solutions above.
Very well said, clear and concise.
When I open some apps, spotify turns off even if the app does not contain any audio. There should be a choice whether you can turn it off or not.
This is happening to me as well when I try to listen to Spotify in the gym and also have my training app open. It is incredibly frustrating to have to keep switching back to Spotify and telling it to play 😞
I downloaded from the samsung store an app called Sound Assistant. It's official looking with no ads. You set which apps it controls. When it sees that one of those apps is running, it controls the volume. When you press the volume keys volume sliders for multiple apps open and you can adjust each one. Anyway, if you only wanted to fix this problem you could probably skip that part and go to the "Multi Sound" setting. You can then select Spotify which will allow Spotify to play even when other apps are trying to play audio. It results in both sound sources playing. But if you added the interfering app (tiktok) to the volume control slider then you could turn it down. It's a handy app for a lot of stuff.
i tried this app, and first, it's not even on the play market and when i try to download an apk, (i've tried many versions and websites) it just immediately crashes. i have a motorola
So I was playing zepto and Roblox and diary puzzles and Instagram and Google Play other stuff I do when I plug it into the headphones I bought Spotify some business and while I play my games when I'm pregnant play the music and play music and then it cuts off
im sorry when i post this somehow wrong, first time i use this here. but my music always stops when i enter twitch or youtupe, and when i pout the music back on the vic/stream stop, what is pretty annoying when i watch an art tutorial and whant to hear music while doing so.
Absolutely this is a major issue. I can’t even open a news app like NBC without it stopping play on Spotify. It’s ridiculous that this can’t be fixed.
Same issue here. Spotify is a "very high maintenance girlfriend!" I want to listen while i work out. Whenever i switch to log my reps the music stops after a few seconds if i don't "check in with her." Irritating af! Since this is a decade old problem, i have small hope hope for improvement.
Why is this marked as solved? The issue is not resolved. As mentioned in other replies, other media apps in android don't stop playing (poweramp for example).
An app stops playing at random situations, sometimes when I do not use my phone, but more often when I'm trying to use another app. Then I can't open a card with Spotify and there is only a black background so I have to close the app and run it again one more time.
Problem starts about 1-2 weeks ago.
App is fully updated, I have already reinstall it and clean all data.
What could be the reason and how to handle it?
