Problems With Spotify on Android

Solved!

Problems With Spotify on Android

Version 0.4.12.180 on Samsung Galaxy S2:

- Crashes when I go to "info" for the currently playing song, select "add to playlist", and select a playlist.
- No lockscreen controls.
- No landscape mode.
-  Queue isn't easily accessible... only from "now playing" screen. Should be available through the "menu" hardware button at all times.
- No way to combine two or more playlists in any sort of way that can then be shuffled and listened to.
- No way to clear a playlist or the queue.
- No way to move around songs in the queue or in playlists.
- No way to add multiple (or all) songs from one playlist to another, or to the queue. At the very least, should be able to select a playlist and add it to the queue or another playlist, if multiple song selection from within a song list is too difficult for spotify coders to handle.
- Can't sort songs in a playlist in by artist or song title. Knowing where a song is within the playlist based on when it was added is probably useful the least amount of time of any sorting options.
- Can't search within playlists. If I have a playlist with a couple hundred songs, it's virtually impossible to find a specific song in there on a screen that can only fit something like 8 songs on it at a time. Would be nice if the "search" hardware button brought up a filter, similar to the filter on the library view. There's a "search" software button on the screen at all times when looking through a playlist, so why not use the "search" hardware button for filtering the current list?
- The "search" hardware button should trigger the filter in the library view. As it is, it says that holding the menu button down will do it, but even that doesn't work, at least on my phone. Going all the way to the top of my library of songs whenever I want to filter is a pain.
- After entering filter text and selecting a song, the keyboard should disappear. Instead, it stays up until I hit the "back" hardware key.
- The filter text appears over the keyboard. Even though it's partially transparent, it still makes seeing the keyboard, as well as the filter text, difficult.

I also have a few things that could seriously be added to improve the mobile app, simple stuff too.

HTC Evo 4G running 2.3

- Shuffle is just busted, there are quite a few times where I will pick a song from a small playlist (about 10 songs or so) then after one song, it stops playing.  It's like it just randomly throws everything together and your song is part of the random mix.  It should make the song you chose first, then follow it up with random stuff and complete the list.

- Radio on Mobile, for the love of God, this would be the biggest addition you guys could remotely make to this service.

- 320kbps playback on Android - From what I hear, iOS users can enjoy 320kbps while Android is limited at 192kbps.  If this is true, then you're literally undercutting your Android paying users.  I realize people pay more for their iPhone, but they sure as heck don't pay anymore than I do for Spotify.

-Gapless playback - You guys know this, why won't you at least give us a status update on it?

- Built-in Equalizer  This isn't too big, I have an equalizer on my computer and Android phone that function just fine, but it would be nice to have it in the Android app since not everyone has one.

- Better Organiziation of Local Files  - It wouldn't take too terribly long to add organization tabs for local files and such.  Artist, Album, heck with just those two I'd be fine.

Bugs

The only real bug I know of, for me anyway, at the moment is that if you "Star" a song or add it to a playlist while a song is playing on the Android app, it just shuts down the app all together.

The ability to set Android to landscape and playlist folders are especially needed.

Some additions:

- Ability to see username of person who added track to playlist (feature exists in iphone client)

- Browse friends (feature exists in iphone client)

- Shuffle play button in playlist (feature exists in iphone client)

- Available offline button in playlist (feature exists in iphone client)

- Edit playlist button in playlist to allow quick removal of tracks (feature exists in iphone client)

Already mentioned but Shuffle has been broken for over a year, please fix this seemingly simple bug!

Many premium subscribers will be happy for a long time if you fix everything what the Brent212 and Owlscawcaw listed.

I bet more people will subscribe the premium when the android app works properly.

This is WIN-WIN situation here!

Developer team, get your hands out of your corporate asses and get to work!

I'm in urgent need of combining playlists together. I have created playlists with different genres and sometimes I just want to listen couple of genres and shuffle the songs on the playlists. Can't do it at the moment.

The offline mode function is one of the dumbest things I've ever encountered in an app. It will put me in offline mode when I clearly have service and it won't let me leave!

Sprint Epic 4G Touch (Galaxy S II)

I'd like to add something that was a deal breaker for me in the mobile app.

I know there's a major rehaul of the android app for ICS and hope some of these fixed would get implemented.

- First a bug. Every major audio players on android does this and it's not a feature, it's rather a bug:

When changing audio sources, stop or pause playback. e.g. when playing through a2dp in my car and I turn the car off, the bluetooth connection gets cut off and audio source changes from bluetooth to media (phone speaker) and it continues playback. So I'm standing there with a phone shouthing death metal in my pocket. Even the default android music player does this. 😞

Most cars or car stereo systems have parrot bluetooth implemented and by default it does not pause playback before disconnecting. (Oh..and as already known, avrcp pause/playback is not working properly on ICS.)

- Remember last played playlist when reopening the app. The play queue is always empty after I've closed the app or it crashed for some reason. And therefore I can't e.g. just continue playback from a avrcp capable device.

- Same goes for shuffle and repeat state. They get reset. And have to re-enable them and this is somewhat awkward in the current app.

- And last but not least. IF there's no major UI revamp in the new app, and it continues to use the slide page to pop up (now playing) when I select a song. Please for the sake of everyone's sanity, don't bring it up everytime I select a song. I know what I selected, this is **bleep** annoying.

Another annoying thing that is constantly happening to me. I have it set to download offline songs only when connected via wifi. About 50-75% of the time I start up the app while on wifi, it downloads songs that have already been downloaded. I'm praying that it's overwriting the existing songs with the new ones, because if not, then I've got about 500 extra duplicate songs that are inaccessible and just taking up space on my phone. Perhaps these songs have just been updated with higher quality encoded versions or something, in which case, nevermind. But I'd like to get some sort of confirmation on that, because if not, it's amazing how easily confused spotify can get... one minute a playlist (that hasn't changed in months) is shown as being completely available offline, the next minute it's downloading songs.

Does anybody have a problem with me changing the title of this idea to "fix the problems w/ Spotify Android"?

Although, it would be a little difficult to change this idea to implemented (since I count 13 bullet points) but I'd feel more fair if we did down the road.

I have no problem with the title being changed.

Hey!

I've moved this thread over to the Android Help board for now - As Rorey states, it's a little difficult to mark this thread as "implemented" when there are rather a lot of requests.

You may have already downloaded the Android Preview (http://www.spotify.com/download/previews/) which may have fixed the stability of the application. For further ideas / wishlist based on this preview version, check this thread out.

Airhorn Enthusiast

Please allow spotify to be controlled using the Android Media Controller controls.

These controls are there in the Car dock app and its easy control/change songs using them. The spotify widget has such small buttons that I dont want to use them while driving. Its distracting.

please add these, else i might have to move to other android services.
