Progress Bar Not Moving

Progress Bar Not Moving

Hello.

When playing songs, the progress bar is not moving. I've attached a screenshot to show this.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks.

Steven.

Hey, @stevenfenton1982! Welcome to the community!

To get started, I'd like to run through some troubleshooting.

First, let's start by clearing the cache of the app with the following instructions

  1. Tap your profile picture at the top.
  2. Tap Settings and privacy
  3. Tap Data-saving and offline.
  4. Under Storage, tap Clear next to Clear cache.

Then close the app completely and reopen it to see if this has any effect.

Next, I would suggest a clean reinstall of the app.

  1. Go to your phone’s Settings.
  2. Select Apps.
  3. Select Spotify from the list of apps.
  4. Tap Storage / Storage & cache memory.
  5. Find and tap Clear storage and Clear cache.
  6. Return to the previous screen and tap Uninstall.
  7. In the phone's Files (or File Manager, My Files, etc.) app:
Go to Internal Storage > Android > data. If you see a com.spotify.music folder, delete it.
If you’re using an SD card, go to SD Card > Android > data. If you see a com.spotify.music folder, delete it.
  8. Restart your device.
  9. Go to Google Play and install the Spotify app.

Let me know how you go, if these don't work, I'll see what other information I can get on the issue!

Cheers,

Jordan

Hello.

I've tried the above suggestions, and I'm still having the same issue. I've attached another screenshot.

Thanks.

Steven.

I've attached 2 screenshots.

Same point on the same song, first screenshot showing progress where the lyrics are, but moving back to the top, you can clearly see it hasn't moved.

Thanks.

Steven.

Thanks for the screenshots @stevenfenton1982 and for going over the suggested steps.

I noticed that you're connected to an external device (perhaps headphones). Could you test and let us know if this behavior persists also if you're listening directly through your phone's built-in speakers?

If the progress bar is stuck only when using your headphones, reset the Bluetooth/Network settings by going to Settings > System > Reset options > Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth to refresh the connection. You can also clear the Bluetooth system cache via Settings > Apps > Show system apps > Bluetooth > Storage > tap Clear cache.

Something else that comes to mind is Android's battery management which can sometimes freeze the app's visual state while audio continues to play. With this in mind, it's a good idea to disable any battery optimization settings and also to set Spotify to 'Unrestricted'. Additionally, ensure that Spotify has permission to run in the background by going to Settings > Apps > Spotify > Permissions.

Many thanks! Keep us posted and we're here if anything else comes up in the meantime.

Hello.

The issue still persists.

I have tried the Bluetooth fixes, and it still remains.

I have attached new screenshots.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Hey @stevenfenton1982,

Thanks for your reply.

Just to help narrow this down a bit:

  • Does this happen only when you’re using Bluetooth headphones or also through the phone’s speakers?
  • What phone model are you using and which Android version and Spotify app version is it running?
  • Do you have any accessibility features turned on?
  • Does the same thing happen if you switch Spotify to Offline mode?
  • And is Canvas working as expected when you play a song?

Cheers,

Hello.

It does seem to only happen using Bluetooth.

Using Samsung S26 Ultra, Android 16, One UI 8.5, Spotify Version 9.1.44.2120.

No accessibility features being used.

Thanks.

Steven.
