I have been a paid Spotify user for a long time now but I am considering canceling my account because it has been so slow recently. Seems to take several minutes to load my playlists, takes several minutes for a song to start playing, etc. I have done everything I can think of to troubleshoot. I have even hard reset my phone and reinstalled Spotify. Anyone else having these issues?
Thanks daniel,
Been there, done that.
Rebooted thousands of times, cleaned the cached, removed the folders, you name it.
It does get better, but soon its back to been rubbish again in a few days.
Its the app that is crap, not the user or the phone.
Besides, this is something the app should be able to do. If Google tell me to do this techy stuff then it would be a first.
I crossed over, and Im more releived than anything.
Thanks though for you quick help.
I agree. I've even installed a clean ROM and had the same ongoing issues (Just last week I moved from 4.4 to 5.0). The "Clean install" advice is a total cop out.
To be honest. I know it aint cool to write it here, but I have been using Google Music for around 6 hours now. Not much I know, but WOW what a difference. Hopped into the car for the journey home and was able to play my offline playlist in like 10 seconds as opposed to messing around with spotify and staring at loading screens for 5-10min and restarting my phone twice.
Go for it. Everything just works brilliantly. Little things like, chrome cast works straight out the box, one click to play the music video without adverts, abitlity to choose where to store your music:internal memory or sd card. Extensions to control the player in your browser. and I keep finding more!
And the android app couldnt work any better. Google are masters at user experience and this is no different.
Cant believe it took me this long!
Yeah, I quite like GPM for playing my own music, but I love Spotify for finding new music, having a load of friends on there, and last.fm scrobbling!
Yep, I just did a factory wipe on the entire phone and cleaned up the sc card. I also have several large downloaded playlists and experience the same problems. It even affects the rest of the phone as well as far as speediness, sometimes to the point the phone is useless. I've been a US user since it was available and Premium. Spotify needs to get this issue fixed as I really do love the concept. There is no way it should be like this on my phone.
Samsung Galaxy S5 16gb Verizon
Stock 5,0 Rom
Sandisk Extreme Plus w/ 80mb/s (Class 3)
Yeah I still got the problem too. Unfollowing some playlists does help although this is only a very annoying workaround. I was in contact with Spotify Support and all they managed to really tell me was that if there was a forum thread about it (this one), then surely the developers would know and get a fix as soon as possible...
Very sad, the desktop version got some issues too (with proxy settings)... they keep releasing updates wihout adressing any of the older issues.
Jarefri,
I'm glad to hear you have not had any further problems. However, I don't know that expecting the user to go through a series of steps like that to get an app to install properly is really the fault of the user. It sounds to me like that problem is most definitely a bug.
In fact, if you are able to reliably reproduce the issue using the method you described, I would encourage you to submit bug reports with your findings. Those would be very helpful in finidng an actual solution for the problem, and eliminate the need for band-aid style fixes. Not storing music on the SD card isn't an acceptable solution for me.
In regards to Google Music, I think every program is going to have problems. I brought it up because they are similar programs with similar features, and both have the ability to store on the SD card. I have not had any of the issues I was experiencing with Spotify with Google Music on my phone. The two are not the same - They are similar enough however, that at the end of the day, I have less problems using Google Music than I was having with Spotify. This is primarily using my phone for playback in my car, and with headphones while cleaning the house.
Your milage with vary, especially based on your music selection (and what is/isn't available on each service), how much of your own music you supliment, the model of your phone, whether you use the music apps on your PC (Google music is web based player only, Spotify has a slick client), etc.
Google Music isn't magic. It just worked better for me, which is all I cared about.
I agree with you 100%.
I have always found the uninstall / reinstall / delete certain files suggestions poor and not acceptable solutions. It really says to me that they don't know what is wrong and hopefully the problem will just magically go away.
I have lots of apps that save data to the SD card including video and pictures that require high transfer speeds and they work without a hiccup. The problem does seem to be specific to spotify which implies a bug and I have filed bug reports.
Good luck with Google Music!
Having the same issues and it started about a month or two ago, I've had my LG G3 since last September and havent had a problem with Spotify till fairly recently. I've done all of whats been said too, it re-installs and downloads everything fine, works for a week or so and then goes back to having random times of extreme slowness, sometimes its fine and fires up fairly quick and I'm back into my current playlist but other times it takes forever to load, my previous playing song never pops up at the bottom and if it does it takes up to a couple of minutes, I can go into my playlists (which are all offline) and none of the art works shows up for quite a while, playing songs takes 10-15 seconds to get started with the album art loading 20 seconds later and the location bar sitting at zero seconds even though the song is playing, it will catch up to itself sometimes 30 seconds later. Want to skip a track, same thing usually, most of the time the next song will start playing but the location bar and album art just wont switch over for quite a while.
I've been using premium for some time now and I really dont want to get rid of it, but I have no idea whats causing these issues, my phone runs great for everything else and i have no problems saving pictures, videos and transfering anything to and from the SD card in my phone, its a high end Samsung 32gb cas10 card.
Not sure what else to do but suffer because I havent found that even Google Music can let me make playlists like I already have and I've spent months putting together some of them that I dont even want to try and make again but at the same time the app is not working very well at all and its getting to be an issue, this and no other service (thats decent) has a family plan, I have my wife on my account for only $5 more and no one else really has that and if they do, they arent up to the caliber of Spotify. Something has to be wrong with the app somewhere or its an issue with lollipop compatibility because I've used Spotify on multiple phones and multiple SD cards and never had a problem till lollipop hit on this phone

Can you try without an SD card? Sometimes a corrupt SD card can cause lag and issues. As you are on Lollipop also try disabling nuplayer in Developer Settings as this is a known issue caused by the 'experimental' player Android introduced.
Yeah I've already disabled nuplayer and that didnt do anything, I've checked the SD card in my PC and it has no issues, and thats just as a precaution, I dont have any speed issues or other problems using the SD card in the phone, I transfer files, photos, videos, save downloads and use backup apps to save stuff to the card, no issues at all with anything but Spotify....I've been running Android since the first Droid hit Verizon and I certainly know my way around the OS and its many pros and cons (also I'm a PC Technician), and that makes me think its the app and not anything else, or at the very least some weird compatibility issue with lollipop, like I said I didnt have a problem with Spotify at all when I was on 4.4, now that my phone has upgraded to 5.0.1, Spotify has started having issues.
Same issue here. HTC One M8, 128 GB SDXC Class 10.
I have unfollowed playlists, uninstalled, cleared the cache, reinstalled. It has not fixed the issue. I have downloaded just 800 songs.
It takes very long to search, browse, etc. Very frustrating.
Have had the same issue with my Sony Xperia z3 Compact... no eed to describe the issue it self as all above seems too familiar.
There werent any issues a couple of months back. I thought it was just that Some other app was using all the bandthwith(4g 100mb/s) or memory or cpu. But after unistalling almost all other apps I'm left with the one conclusion. Spotify just suck with android Lollipop.
Is there any _real_ solution for this? The app is currenly mostly useless!
