My Question or Issue

Hi, for the past couple of years i found very helpful that right after opening the android app, picking magnifying glass for search, a keyboard automatically popped out. Since the last update, this is not happening. I tried to clearing cache and restarting the phone.

@Usermuser33, I believe tapping the search field should still work as normal: I recommend using that as a workaround in the meantime.

Exactly the same for me on S23. Logout, phone restart, app reinstall and still the same problem.

On top of that, when searching for e.g. well known band, the the band does not appear itself (with small picture as usual) but only the name of the band with magnifying glass on the left side. After clicking, next page is opening, where there is already the right name of the band with their picture. I have to click on that again to get to the artist

My Question or Issue

Hi, I’ve been facing an annoying issue with the keyboard in the Spotify Android app.

Problem

When I tap the search button in Spotify, the keyboard (Gboard or any other keyboard) briefly appears and then instantly disappears. I can’t type anything because the keyboard never stays open.

What I’ve tried so far

✅ Cleared cache → didn’t help
✅ Cleared data → no change
✅ update Spotify → no change
✅ Uninstalled and reinstalled Spotify → still the same
✅ Tried both the latest version and an older version(Last month's version) of Spotify → issue persists

✅ Tried with different keyboards (Gboard, SwiftKey, Samsung Keyboard) → same issue

✅ Tested other apps → the keyboard works fine everywhere else (e.g google play search bar etc.)

Conclusion: This is clearly not a device or keyboard problem. The issue only happens in Spotify.

Request:Please investigate this bug in the Spotify Android app.

Is there any known fix or workaround until an update resolves it?

I was told by Kirk O from the support live chat to mention this here. 

The search button at the bottom of the screen has brought the keyboard up for years when I've used Spotify. As my phone is quite large (S25 Ultra), it's just muscle memory to click the search button at the bottom to bring up the keyboard, instead of using a second hand to tap the search bar at the top of the app. I'm always in a rush when using the search function to find a specific song, so this has really been annoying me in the latest update. 

I believe this stems from the new animation backend that Spotify is using. I've noticed some of the animation timings are different so clearly something has been changed which has broken this feature. 

Sounds like a first world problem haha - but this has been a part of Spotify for years, clearly just a bug that was caused in the most recent update.

Same for me. I even have a homescreen gesture direct to Spotify search, and it's so annoying now that its doesn't go straight to the keyboard. It was such a good idea. Weird thing is the keyboard does pop up, but something then makes it hide again straight away. If I'm searching, why would I want the keyboard to go away, is what I'm wondering? I hope this will be sorted soon. Currently I have to tap search, then tap in the white search bar, and then tap again in the black search bar, for the keyboard to finally appear.

To add I'm on a oneplus 8t and it happens with both SwiftKey or gboard. I've attached an animation of the app opening and the keyboard briefly appearing and hiding again
