I tried to use Spotify on a Kindle Fire HDX, and considering it's a tablet, I was hoping that I'd be able to use the free version of Spotify where I can play any track. Unfortunately, it's saying my Kindle Fire is a moble device and not a tablet, which of course is not the case. Is there something I can do to help Spotify recognize that the Kindle is a tablet, so I can stream on demand music?
Thank you!
Solved! Go to Solution.
It is not just an HD problem. My first generation Kindle Fire is also shuffle-only. Updates, reinstalls, and even device resets haven't made an impact
Strange how it works on the second generation but not other versions.

Hi everyone!
We're still unable to reproduce this at our end, so we're going to need to run some tests on your accounts.
I've PM'd a few of you requesting this, so please get back to me and we'll start the process.
Apologies for the delay in updating you guys, but hopefully we can get to the bottom of this soon 🙂
Hi everyone!
Just a quick update to say that we've run some tests and have been able to reproduce the issue.
We are now investigating this further and are working on a fix.
Thanks for your patience so far, and we'll make sure to keep you updated 🙂
I have a Kindle Fire HD 2nd gen. Moved Spotify to my cloud awhile back since I couldn't stream. Heard somewhere that the issue was resolved so I just installed version 0.7.8.566 and it says "Your Premium trial is over. Shuffle play music for free." Will be so happy when this app realizes it's on a tablet and not mobile.
Hey just wondering if the issue has been resolved yet? It would be great if there was some sort of resolution so I can finally get the benefits of spotify on my tablet.
As soon as they figure it out and come up with a fix, they'll post here. If the fix involves aa new release for Kindle though, it could take a bit of time I'd guess.
Updated to version 0.7.9.1170 and still only allows shuffle on Kindle Fire HD 2nd gen. Just FYI in case they were testing a fix or something.
I am having the same issue with the original kindle fire. I tried both the version in the amazon app store, which is version 0.7.9.1170, and also tried side loading it from the google play store. Neither one is recognzing my device as a tablet and is treating it as a mobile device instead. Any update on the matter?
I am having the same issue with my newly purchased Kindle HD 7". Please help! Thank you!
Also am only being given the option for Shuffle Play. Running Spotify 1.0.0.82 on Kindle HDX 7" with system software 13.3.2.2_user_322095220 (most current version, verified on amazon.com).
Is there a fix for this yet?
== UPDATE ==
So apparently even though the only big button says "Shuffle Play", if I tap on the first song on the album, the album will play sequentially (and looking in my queue confirms the tracks seem to be in order). Clicking on the small album art at the banner at the bottom of the screen (which only has pause and next track buttons) brings up a different view with large album art and a full set of controls: time slider, shuffle, repeat, add (track/playlist/etc.), pause, prev track, next track.
In other words, all the functionality appears to be there, it is just poor UI design.
I do not see what you are talking about. I still cannot play any of my playlists in the order I want. It's been over 5 months since they released the free to tablets. Why is this still not fixed? I love Spotify, but I am incredibly disappointed in the lack of resolution in this matter. Can we PLEASE get an update if not a solution?
I emailed spotify the other day before discovering this forum and the basically said sorry we can't do anything because your screen resolution is not high enough and makes the app think your kindle is a phone.
On Kindle Fire HD, Spotify still only works on shuffle. It has clearly been set up this way, because if you click a song to play it, the massive green SHUFFLE icon bang in the centre of the screen starts expanding then shrinking again. There is no way for the user to change it. Please fix this.
The new Spotify Music update still does not work, do not let that play the song you choose.
That is absolutely ridiculous. There are multiple ways to tell the kindle fire apart from a phone. Whoever told customer service to send that email should be fired.
So no word on update for spotify? I have the paid subscription and wanted to download it on my kindle hdx 8.9. It will not download. I am assuming we are still waiting for an update.
If the current app doesn't work on the new models, I'd guess that there will be an update in due course. You can always tweet @SpotifyCares or get in touch using the contact form. If you get an automated response directing you back to the community or to the help pages, please reply to it to speed things along.
