Start where I left off

I run the Spotify app and the home screen is filled with stuff I'm never going to use. All I want to do is press play and have it play where I left off in the last session. I see no way to play anything unless I press a playlist. I have a lengthy playlist and this just starts the playlist over again. I don't want to start the playlist over again I want to pick up where I left off. How do I do something this simple? The Spotify not want me to do something like this? Because it seems like it would be such a simple feature that everyone would use.
