My Question or Issue

I currently have two notifications on my phone everytime I play music? If I want to get rid of the Spotify notification on my notification bar, it always requires me to swipe twice. The first "page", it will show the song that is currently playing with Playing on this phone, but the next page is a fixed song that is always there even if I'm not playing it. I don't understand why this is happening, and it is quite annoying.

@Alex
It is not connected to any account of mine. I just disabled the app and the notification did not go away. So I uninstalled it. And the notification is still there even with Spotify fully removed. I don't understand. It's not just there, but it comes back when I swipe it away and play any other media.

Hi there @Delphox,

Thank you for getting back in touch with us and for your confirmation.

If we understand correctly, the notification was present at the time of the uninstall? If that's the case, it seems to be locked for some reason by the OS.

It's not possible for the app to send notifications if it's not actually installed, so it seems the Android Rom is detecting the playback from Spotify and generating the notification, instead of that being handled by Spotify itself.

The app doesn't have the ability to override system-level settings, so this is further evidence that this is triggered by the system itself.

As such there's not much we can do to change that, as it seems it's a side-effect of how this device's rom handles the playback events by Spotify.

Keep us posted.

Take care!

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

Yeah I'm having a similar issue but it's not when I'm playing another Spotify song it's the same song but if I'm watching YouTube or any thing and then I pause it and I go to my home screen and when I go to my notification there's this Spotify with the same exact song it's always the same one if I push down on it there's an option to remove or cancel and when I hit remove nothing happens it's like a useless button that doesn't do anything this is on a Samsung s22 ultra. I've tried doing a forestry start doing all of the troubleshooting I've read about app permissions I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app I've turned my phone off and restarted it and turn it back on and no matter what that same Spotify notification will be showing I can swipe it and it will go away but soon as I am doing anything like I said watching YouTube and I have a pause I will see it and it's the same song even if I'm not on Spotify and on the app is closed. Even making sure things are not running in the background. I don't know why I just started randomly happening and it's always one song even if that song I haven't listened to in days or weeks and I listen to countless other ones since it's always that song showing on the notification drop down and like I said I swipe it and it goes away and then it shows my YouTube notification and once I swipe that one it goes away but it doesn't come back unless I am currently watching YouTube or other things like that and I have it plain and I paused it and went to my home screen. Larry said I've went through all the troubleshooting that you suggested and other things and none of it seems to work because it's still will show back up.

Hey there @BuckNutty,

Thanks for the post.

As @Jeremy has described, this issue is mostly related to the OS. You can try turning off notification for the Spotify app by going into your phone's app settings > Find Spotify in the list of apps and select it> Click on Notifications > Try disabling Show notifications entirely.

Let us know if this removes the notification that gets stuck.

Cheers.

a year later and this issue still exists on my samsung galaxy s22 ultra.  i just did a fresh install after removing all data and cache.  app has been excluded from all power savings settings and is allowed to run in the background.  There is still numerous instances of spotify in the 'media output" panel on samsung devices.  same issue with my girlfriends samsung device.  this is clearly a bug in the app.  fix it!

Hey @Idiggplants,

Thanks for your reply.

As mentioned previously in this thread, the double notifications could be due to the additional link between your Samsung web account and your Spotify account. So, would you mind trying this workaround suggested by @n3tronic to see if you notice any difference? Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

On another note, as pointed out above by user @Dave50_whitehead, you can also disconnect any other apps you have linked to your Spotify account. You can do that, by going to your Account Spotify page> Apps> Remove access

Lastly, just to confirm, did you follow the steps in this article to perform a clean reinstall of the app on your device? Keep in mind we recommend restarting your device once you've deleted the app and all its files.

thanks @AlejaR, but i dont have spotify connected to my samsung account.  so no, that doesnt do anything.

the only apps i have linked to my spotify account is google.

and yes, i followed those steps to do a clean reinstall.

i must say its pretty tiresome seeing all these issues with spotify, and most of them require you to do your own fixes like clean reinstalls, disconnecting apps, etc etc.  the proper fixes should be on spotify's end, and not requre the end user to jump through hoops to get something they pay for working correctly.

Hey @Idiggplants,

Thanks for your reply and for the info shared.

Just to clarify, reinstalling the app helps to solve most common inconveniences in general, which can be causing the app to behave. By doing that the app can be up-to-date and you can make sure the cache is not leading to this inconvenience. This is why we recommend performing a clean reinstallation.

On another note, can you try disconnecting your app from Google to check if that makes any difference? As mentioned before, some other users reported disconnecting some of the apps from Spotify helped.

Lastly, you can also try what @Alex mentioned above. Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Cheers!

I found the solution!

In app setting you enable "notifications" but turn off all the "notification categories".

I think I understand the issue that's causing the problem but not well enough to explain it 👌

Hey, just wanted to add to more info to this. I don't think its Spotify's fault as I have apple music for android (Its as bad as it looks) and I had this exact same problem on my Samsung s20 plus running android 12, one UI version 4.1. The marked solution did solve the issue as long as you restart your phone after making the changes. Also, thanks a ton to spotify for solving something thats not even their fault.

It is still not working for me. There is no option for background app refresh. And I have three notifications now

I noticed a way to make the second notification show up that might point you in the right direction to fix this issue. This is on Samsung Galaxy S23.

In Samsung you have the normal profile for apps, a private profile and the work profile. I can enable/disable the Work profile to e.g. not get notifications from my work email. I don't have Spotify inside the work profile though.

If I start spotify with Work Profile disabled Spotify will show up once as a notification. When I enable the work profile another notification shows up as well. There are other ways for this to happen as well, at least this way is consistent for me. See screen recording.

Btw Spotify, Samsung has the biggest market share of smartphones, there is no excuse for not making your app work properly on them.
