My Question or Issue

Since updating to the one ui 3, I can not sync my local files between my pc and my phone. I've followed all the instructions in the local files syncing guideline. But none of them has worked. the problem may come from firewall. I don't know to justify. I need some helps.

Hey there @h13nl3,

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!

Firewalls may indeed be blocking the successful upload of local files. This is why it's best to test with another network, like a mobile hotspot.

Try the following:

  1. Create a mobile hotspot from your phone
  2. Connect both your PC and phone to this network
  3. Have both apps open
  4. Reupload the local files on your PC

Let us know if that helped 🙂

The problem is indeed coming from the firewall.

How can I set Spotify as an exception for that matter?

Do I really to use the mobile hotspot each time I want to download the files on my pc?

Hi there @h13nl3,

Thanks for getting back to us.

You might need to contact your ISP for support in that matter or look around the internet for instruction on how to add a Firewall exception to allow traffic from Spotify on your devices.

Also, make sure that your router supports UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) and that it is enabled. Some routers don't support this protocol which can result in local files not updating.

Hope this helps. Don't hesitate to reach out again if you have questions.

I don't think the firewall is the problem.

After managing to set Spotify as an exception on both devices, pc and phones, I'm still not able to detect any problems. Yet, My download on my phone is still gray.

Upnp, I don't think it's the cause. I've just made a switch from ios to Samsung a51. When I used I didn't have any problems with downloading.

Hey there @h13nl3,

Thank you for your reply and confirmation.

Can you perform a clean reinstall of the app? This will make sure there's no old cache files causing this.

Another useful step in is to change the source folder of the local files on the pc. The steps are: Uninstall Spotify on both devices > create a new folder somewhere else on the pc and move the local files there > install Spotify again > remove any potential source folders and add the new one > download the playlist again.

The problem remains.

I have no trouble downloading with my iPhone 6. So I think the problem may come from this android phone or the app.

Hey @h13nl3,

Thanks for your reply.

In your post from Monday you thought that a firewall was causing the issue, just to clarify- did you manage to synch the local files over a mobile hotspot?

In any case, if the problem persists, it's a good idea to change the source of the local files. Simply create a new folder in a different directory on your device and move your local files to this folder. Then just delete the old folder used for the local files and the playlists in the app containing them. Now you can try importing the files again from scratch using the steps in the support article.

Hope this helps. Keep us posted on how it goes.

Creating the mobile hotspot is not the answer to my problem. Because it's inconsistent. I've just tried to sync for 1 hour. yet, It didn't show any results.

I've followed your advice by changing the location of local files. Therefore, It hasn't shown any positive progress.

Hey @h13nl3,

Thanks for getting back to us.

The troubleshooting done so far indicates that something is restricting your internet connection. As @Alex mentioned, it's a good idea to to contact your ISP for support on how to remove any restrictions that might be interfering with the synch of local files.

You also mention that this started happening after an update to your OS. It's a good idea to check if the update hasn't introduced changes to your phone's internet settings. Keep in mind that any such update has the slim chance of damaging the firmware files. If none of the steps above do the trick, you can factory reset the phone in order to get rid of any corrupted files.

Hope this helps. Keep us posted on how it goes.

I guarantee my wifi has no problem. Because my iphone 6 device syncs smoothly. The only issue is my android device i.e Samsung a51.

I've followed your instructions. the problem remains. It keeps gray and not downloading.

Hey again @h13nl3,

Thank you for your post.

If you have an SD card we suggest that you uninstall the app > turn off your phone > take out your SD card > turn on the phone again (without the SD card) > reinstall the app since the card can be corrupted and then try to sync them again.

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Cheers!
