Can you let me know if you're experiencing this while listening to songs, or podcasts?

If you're experiencing this when listening to podcasts, Spotify doesn’t play ads that interrupt the music listening experience, however, some podcasts may include advertising, host-read endorsements, or sponsorship messages. There’s more info about this here.

If you're experiencing ads when playing a normal song - try a clean reinstall of the app following these steps.
