Option to disable Made for you feature

Solved!

Option to disable Made for you feature

The 'made for you' feature being an automatic feature on so many playlists is just meaning every single playlist sounds the same and has the same songs in it!

The reason I want to listen to a different playlist is because I want new music not to be pushed the exact same songs I am already listening to - half of them don't even match the genre.

An option to disable this feature and just listen to the default Spotify version would be really useful as it is getting really tedious.

Also sometimes you listen to a playlist with someone else and your like oh I really like these tracks they share the playlist and then it's all different because you are logged in. Seems to defeat the object of a playlist.

Like others, I just want to listen to a playlist based on that specific song/artist/genre only, without it being catered to my personal taste. I want to discover new music BASED ON THE PROMPT SPECIFICALLY, and not start to hate my favorite songs from overplaying them. Also trying really hard to turn off "Made for you" feature. Or if not turn it off, find a way to access an alternate version of the playlist? I've had spotify premium since 2015 and never considered leaving until now

Dude, this is AI reply isn't it? Keep in mind the post that you're replying to in the first place

I started a "song radio" from Kendrick Lamar's 'Not Like Us' and a couple songs later i'm listening to Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan. This "made for you" "feature" is junk. Seems like it might be the "Tidal Wave" to bring about a big move

I totally agree! The Made For You playlists used to be sooo good and I'd get so excited! They're horrible now. When you put Kelly Clarkson, Train & Backstreet Boys on PITBULL RADIO, there's an issue. Then even when I hide 20+ songs on that playlist cause they don't at all match the vibes, they just stay hidden on the playlist and they don't even refresh the Radio to fit the vibes or replace the songs. It's soooo annoying! Just wish I could turn the stupid thing off - I hate how they've decided their stupid AI knows best when it's honestly the worst. I HATE Made For You playlists now, and yet they're EVERYWHERE. No wonder I can't find what I'm looking for anymore. Will be looking at other platforms to switch our premium account to.

Agree with the original comment and the answer completely misses the point of the question. I know that made for you is based on my habits (habits which are now affected by the for you algorithm - see the problem here?). I'd like to turn that off. And I also think user-created playlists *as they were originally created* should be moved  to a separate area from the Spotify and For You playlists.

How can I disable the "Made for you" feature? I'm not interested to listen songs from my previous plays. I'm more interested to find fresh content. Thank you!

STOP MADE FOR YOU.

It is such an annoying feature that just regurgitates the same songs.  I’m seriously considering cancelling my subscription.

For example, I’ve ‘liked’ four Bruce Springsteen songs… now he appears in loads of my Radios, such as Soft Cell, The Police, Creedance.  They not even slightly similar artists and I want to listen to similar artists when I play their radios!

Hi @SadFlight8549,

Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community!

Unfortunately, there currently isn’t a way to disable the "Made for you" feature. However, I think that this is a great suggestion as well, and there are currently a few Live Ideas for being able to turn off this feature:

If any of these ideas are something you’re interested in, I'd recommend adding your +VOTE to them. The more votes an idea gets, the likelier it is that Spotify will implement it, and you can read more about how feedback on ideas reaches Spotify here.

Feel free as well to Subscribe to the ideas by clicking the three dots next to their titles; that way, you can be sure to be informed of any relevant updates.

Let me know if you have any other questions, and have a good day!

I found a temporary solution here: https://www.reddit.com/r/truespotify/comments/1axjdfu/comment/l37pu4y/

But anyway I'll disable my Spotify subscription and give Apple music a try. Until then:

  • Click on the radio playlist that is "made for you" to open it.
  • Right click on the name, hover Share > Copy link to playlist (copy link directly on mobile)
  • Open up a browser in incognito mode and paste the link you previously copied but do not press Enter yet.
  • Find in the link (URL) you just pasted: ?si=
  • Delete ?si= and everything after the link to remove your customized information
  • Press Enter, you should now have the original Spotify playlist
  • You can select all the songs (50) by clicking on the first song (anywhere empty on the song row) and holding shift then press the last song. There you can click and drag the songs into your empty playlist and voilà!

Thanks @MikelKraken

hate the made for you playlists. they are all the same songs... I'm so sick of it.

This problem becomes excruciating when playing through my smart speaker and I'm using voice commands to play music and I just hear the same music over and over. On my phone it's easy to scroll past the "made for you" playlists but there is no way way to do this with a smart speaker. So best case scenario it's an announcing extra step, but with a smart speaker it requires intervening with my phone or another device, which completely defeats the benefit of nice control with a smart speaker.

I'm begging you, *please* just create an option to disable "made for you". I don't want to jump ship but this is completely ruining my ability to enjoy your product.

I second this! it's really frustrating and I came here to find an answer too. it would be great to go to a song radio and actually have a selection of songs in a similar genre/tone. not just the same songs I've been listening to on repeat.

maybe a sign i gotta go out to some music shops  and listen to the radio and discover music how it was intented to be ha.

but yeah It would be great for spotify to note this. and make made for you an optional feature.

I cant help but feel alot of artists especially small ones losing out on exposure too. idk.

Hey @Susan_GP that is not true at all. Take for example the spotify public playlist "Sci-fi scapes" that i've been following for years, but since we started getting this "Made for [user's name]" now I keep seeing a lot of the artists and songs I already know. I checked in a ignogito session comparing the playlist and they are very different playlists. All we want is a way to disable this "made for you" feature so that we can get the "default" curated playlist

It's so annoying. I just want to discover new music. I do not want to hear the same songs over and over again. I just want to turn off made for you playlists

Honestly cannot believe this still has not been fixed. It is extremely annoying as I want to listen to playlists to discover new music and I find it feeding me songs I already listen to. What is more annoying is that it puts songs on there that I listened to maybe 5-6 years ago but have since fallen out of love with, and so then I have to skip over these.
Can they not simply have a setting to allow us to turn this feature off so playlists go back to a standard default!

This is my biggest complaint with Spotify, I used to discover songs that I never knew about in Spotify’s premade playlists, but now the same songs that I listened to that might not even fit the category are auto generated into these playlists so I don’t actually discover anything new… even though there might be other ways to discover new music, it doesn’t mean that the way things were before should be completely disregarded 😒 I wonder if it’s because Spotify does not want to update their playlists anymore… only way that I think could solve this is if you create an account and not listen to any music and then access the playlists 😞 Spotify, please let us be able to toggle this off

Apologies for all the autocorrect typos above

I wouldn't say the problem has been solved. The request to have an off switch (or even a filter) for Made for You playlists remains unaddressed. There's clearly strong demand from the community here.

“Made for you” is not great!! It completely ruined radio. It shows me the same songs over and over no matter what station I create. I want the station to give me categorically similar music, not show me songs I already listen to. It prevents me from discovering new music. I also hate that it affects Spotify made playlists as well. Why?! It makes it impossible to DJ for a room of friends when I want a certain vibe, but all it does is play my esoteric music taste. It’s not great. Please make it optional. Forcing it on users is a big mistake

I would like the option to turn off the made for you feature in the playlists that are made by Spotify. This used to be a great way to find new music but now I'm listening to the same songs over and over again.
