Ok.. Spotify's automated grammer system is being a real pain today. I don't feel like rewriting anything so, see my response here:

My MGO and Blockbuster buttons don't work anymore. When will Roku send me new buttons?

My point is everything changes and there is nothing you can do about it.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I can be a sarcastic SOB 🙂

Been following this thread for quite a while and I think it's time to walk the talk and rock on. See everyone on another topic.

This also works for me, using 'screen mirroring' on the phone and Roku.  It isn't quite as convenient as a native app on the Roku.  The phone gets warm and uses the battery up pretty fast.  But the sound quality seems as good as with the old native app.

Using optical audio out from the TV to an external DAC  and amp/speakers.

On my better audio system in another room I have a Denon HEOS Link and the phone doesn't get nearly as warm when I use it as a remote with that system.

THIS IS TAKING FOREVER!!!!

This would be extremely useful and if it doesnt happen soon I'll regretfully have to switch to Pandora.

How this isn't mplemented yet??

It only takes a commited tech company to fix any issues on the older app and release a working version. Oh, it's Spotify, my bad.

Here it is September. Roku's stocks have gone through the roof, and they are gathering market share Spotify must have thought was going to Chromecast and Apple. Roku is a central device in homes worldwide. At least grant access to source code for developers so someone else can make a good app for streaming Spotify through my TV. As others have mentioned, I will go to another service soon if I find it competitive.

Geez, I regret starting this thread. It's clear that for whatever reason Spotify is not interested in supporting Roku. Either accept it and stop complaining as Spotify is not listening. Or vote with your feet and go elsewhere, God knows there are a lot of other streaming services out there.

So you're the cause of all our pain 🙂

Apparently, well that and Spotify just not caring about the Roku. I did notice that Amazon has a new music app for the Roku that is awesome. Which is pretty interesting since the Roku is their competitor.

If Netflix can work on my Roku, and Amazon can work on my Roku, and Pandora can work on my Roku, and Showtime Anytime can work on my Roku, and Vudu can work on my Roku, and HBO Go can work on my Roku, then I think it's reasonable to expect Spotify to work as well.

It's been 10 months since Spotify pulled their app. As a paying customer, it's not unreasonable for me to be upset that there's been no word on this, much less an actual working app. And why don't they roll back to the previous version and leave it up until they've figured out what they need to figure out?

Uhhhhh, seriously? How is Spotify seriously not working on Roku yet? This is pretty bad.

Back in the Napster days, lots of people used to say "if there was a legal way to do this, I would pay". But, the record companies fought it tooth and nail and it set back the industry 15 years. Fastforward to today and people are finally starting to adopt streaming music platforms, and now they won't play nice with the streaming hardware providers??

tl;dr - will Spotify just fix this already?!? PLEASE?

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Talk about dragging their heels over this issue... are they seriously wanting people to go back to filesharing. These companies will NEVER learn!

Then you also know as a software developer, if a device is using an older OS, and can't handle the features of a third party product; OR the old OS has security issues that could make a third party product volnerable; then what's the ssense in continuing to develop for that device. Stop making everything about Spotify. Spotify is the only streaming service, that works on more devices than anyone else. I'm sure they've done everything in their power to make things work. But for whatever reason, they can't. That's it... They're way too many other alternatives to be worried about Roku... Things happen.

Roku doesn't use Android, it uses a specialized version of Linux and honestly you will have a hard time getting me to believe if it can do 4K Netflix, Prime Video and others as well as youtube, iHeart and Pandora that it is unreasonable to believe Spotify can be done. what I suspect is the issue is about the removal of the old system Roku used which they flat out told Developers they believed was holding them back. if you look they dropped support for all devices that could not handle their new system that was brought in with Roku OS 8.

what I'm saying is. this is not about Roku devices being capable of using spotify, this is an issue with spotify and maybe a grudge with Roku for removing that old system. Roku did give the channel developers well over a year to update their channels so I don't believe Spotify has any excuse here other than the possible "we don't wanna support them anymore" BS

FINALLY!!!!

JUST ANNOUNCED:

Spotify coming back to Roku, adding Spotify Connect

Streaming music service Spotify will be coming back to Roku TVs and streaming boxes in October and November.

Thank God. Now this thread can be closed.

Well, let's wait until the app actually lands.

I wish there was a thumbs down rather than a like I keep on clicking go to solution and it keeps on just bringing me to the fact that Roku removed Spotify will spot if I was working on it or whatever the **bleep** I don’t even care what y’all are saying if it says go to the **bleep**ing solution I wanna go to the **bleep**ing solution up a **bleep** question over and over again you stupid mother**bleep**ers

true

Guess it will be November since Oct. is almost over and nothing has been updated...

Yeah I finally canceled my service. I’m overpaying for something I can only use when I’m using certain apps at certain times. If I can’t play it through my TV then there’s absolutely no point in having it. I signed up for Pandora in Apple Music and Amazon music to see which one I want to go with but I’ve already been back with Spotify three times now and will never come back. The fact that they can’t even respond to us telling us when this is supposed to happen after they told us it was going to happen in January of this year now we’re almost to the end of the year. Give me a freaking break what a waste of money this company is trash I sold my stock I’m over it
