My Question or Issue

When you click "Home" to return to the home page on the Spotify Web Player on Safari, it automatically starts to play many overlapping songs without any interaction with the media player, e.g. pressing play manually.

I've attached a .zip file containing a screen recording of the issue.

Hi there @Ryxu8,

Thanks for posting on the Community and for providing the video.

Could you let us know if you noticed when this behavior occurred for the first time and if it was after something specific?

If you've not done these steps already, it's worth giving them a try:

  • Clear Safari's cache and cookies.
  • Disable any third party apps you may be using on the browser.
  • If you're using a VPN make sure to also disable it.
  • Test if the same behavior persists in the Web Player in another browser.

We'll be on the lookout for your response.

Hello,

Thank you very much for your response.

I noticed this behaviour a few days ago, it did not happen after anything specific.

I have already contacted Spotify Support about this issue and went through the appropriate troubleshooting measures. I have already tried clearing cache and cookies, disabling extensions and third-party apps, they did not resolve the issue. I do not use a VPN.

I have tried to reproduce this problem on other browsers, Chrome and Firefox, the issue only happens on Safari and other WebKit browsers, such as Orion.

Hey @Ryxu8,

Thanks for following up with more details! And kudos for including the troubleshooting steps you've tried as well.

As a heads-up, considering you've already tried quite a few steps and it only seems to happen using Safari, it's possible that it's related to the current setup. However, to make sure we cover all bases, there are few more things you can try.

When you get the chance, it would be great if you could check:

  • With a different Spotify account to see if it behaves in the same way. For example, you can ask a friend or a family member to sign in to their own account on your device.
  • Clearing hosts file. You can do so by following the steps listed under Mac here.
  • Any pending updates for the device's OS and its sound drivers.

Keep us posted on how it goes!

Thank you again for your ongoing support.

When trying to replicate the problem on a different Spotify account, the problem doesn't occur. Seems like it's a problem with my account exclusively. Going into my hosts file, there are no entries with "Spotify" in the address. I am on the latest version of macOS.

Hey @Ryxu8,

Thanks for keeping us posted as well 🙂

Since you don't have any issues with any other browsers and nobody else has the same issue when using your Safari browser, what I'm wondering is if your own account would work if you try using an incognito browser window on Safari.

In case your account does work properly in incognito mode, normally I'd think that the stored cache & cookies are at fault here. As you've already tried removing these though, I'd recommend reinstalling the browser itself to see if that would make a difference.

Alternatively, to see if this is an account-related issue, if possible I'd see if using a different device + the Safari browser would yield the same results for your account. For the time being, I'd recommend using a different browser or downloading the app itself.

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Hello again,

I have tried signing in and using Spotify Web Player in an incognito window, and the issue still persists. I believe it is an account-related issue.

Unfortunately, I don't own another Mac that I can use to test logging into my Spotify account on Safari on a different device.

However, I have tried logging into my Spotify account on different browsers that use the same WebKit browser engine as Safari, and the issue occurs on them as well. I downloaded a fresh install of the DuckDuckGo browser, as well as the Orion browser, and the problem is reproducible on both of them.

Hey @Ryxu8,

Thanks for your reply.

This indeed sounds like an account issue, so feel free to reach out to our colleagues from chat/email support again providing this thread as reference, so they can assist you in transferring your playlists to a new account.

Cheers,

Whenever I go into the Spotify website to play music on Mac, I'll click on my playlist and start the music. But if I go back to the home page by pressing the house button it will blast me with a cluster of random music. Like Imagine a bunch of random songs playing on top of each other. Does anyone know why this happens? it wasn't always an issue, I have logged my account out of all devices assuming it was a connection issue but it hasn't resolved.

I thought it was just an issue with my account specifically, but I guess not.

I contacted Spotify's Customer Support Escalations Team about the problem, and after a lengthy troubleshooting process that unfortunately did not resolve anything, they responded with this: "We've passed the report on to the relevant team, but can't confirm if or when they'll have the capacity to look into this."

I'm really hoping this problem gets resolved sometime soon.

I am having the same issues

Having the exact same issue! hope you have a solution soon

Hey folks,

In order to aid us in the investigation, could you confirm the following: In the video @Ryxu8 has provided, the Web Player seems to think and detect that Spotify is playing on another device (Ryxu8's MacBook in this case) from the Connect menu. Is it the same for the rest of you too or does the issue also occur when the Web Player is the only device you're logged in to? Could you log out from all devices except the Web Player to see if the issue would still occur?

If there are any updates available for your browser, make sure to install them.

Let us know how it goes.

The problem still persists even when I’m logged out of all other devices and Spotify doesn’t show anything in the Connect menu.

I am using the latest version of Safari.

Thanks for testing and for your continued assistance, @Ryxu8.

To help us narrow down the possible cause for this behavior, could you check if the correct audio output device has been selected for your browser? If you're using any other sound-enhancing settings or apps, I'd recommend disabling them temporarily as well to see if that makes a difference.

Keep us posted on this 👍

My MacBook Pro speakers are correctly set as my audio output device and I have no sound-enhancing apps installed. Unfortunately, the problem still persists. The same audio bug also happens while having headphones or AirPods connected.

I've had the same problem, and I also selected the correct audio output. Nothing seems to fix the issue
