Better Library Organization

Better Library Organization

The way the library organization works in the side bar is so unbelievably frustrating.  Somethings can go in folders some can't.  It moves things around and doesn't stay in any sensible order.  Your UI desperately needs to be reworked so that we are able to add any playlist / album list / artist to a folder that we create and we need to be able to organize the folders all in a grouping in alphabetical order. My list is so long and only a fraction of it can be put into folders and then the folders are scattered everywhere.

Hey there @anightgirl

Thanks for getting in touch about this here in the Community. We moved your post from the Ideas board to the relevant Help board, where it fits better.

Could you give us more info about the content you can't organize in folders? Sending us a screenshot would come in handy.

You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert image option in the post editor. Make sure not to send any private info.

On another note, keep in mind that you can sort your content in Your library by following the steps here.

@Eni - I'm not the original poster but have similar thoughts. To elaborate, The 'Your Library' section is broken up into sections (I have Playlists, Artists, and Albums) as shown in your screenshot.

Only Playlists can be organized within folders. Artists cannot be placed in folders at all. Albums let you drag them onto a folder, but instead create a playlist of the songs on that album within the folder when you do so. I can't speak for Podcasts, Audiobooks, or other categories as I don't use them.

Yes - there are different views (compact, list, grid), sorting (Recents, Recently Added, Alphabetical, Creator) and filtering methods (by the type of content) but the inability to place every type of content into folders really dampens organization ability.

Spotify doesn't truly have individual user 'libraries' in the historically traditional sense of digital music management. It's effectively just a Playlist of liked songs, individual liked albums, and followed artists - all of which are not connected. If I wanted to, for example, put all of the albums I have saved on shuffle there is no way of doing so without placing them all into a playlist first.

Hey there @kaerosnow

You can also have a look in our Idea Exchange to see if someone else has already made a similar suggestion. If there isn't one, you can give these steps a go and submit your idea so that other users can also support it. The higher the number of votes an idea gets, the more likely it is for it to be implemented.

Also, you can read more about how your feedback reaches Spotify here.
