My computer is rather slow and I can't have too many programs running at once. So Spotify opening automatically really slows down my computer. Is there any way that I can change the settings of my Spotify account so that it doesn't open when I turn on my computer? Also, how do I turn it off, because closing the screen doesn't seem to work...

letmesing17,
Welcome to the community!
You can change the startup behaviour of Spotify in the preferences screen. To do this, within Spotify, click the Edit menu at the top, and then select Preferences. Scroll to the very bottom of the Preferences screen, and select "Don't open automatically" from the "Open Spotify automatically after you log into the computer" section.
Yes, closing the window does not exit the application. In order to exit Spotify, you can select the Exit option from the File menu from within Spotify. Closing the window leaves it running in the background, mostly so you can continue listening to music without having the window open.
Hope this helps!
What is Toastify?
If it is a 3rd party application, then you will need to get in touch with them.

Hi,
In the Toastify settings there is on option to open Spotify if it isn't already open.
I suggest you untick it 🙂

Thank you so much! Your help is much appreciated 🙂
I have my preferences set to "Don't open automatically" and it still does. I'm using windows 7 because I have a cheap laptop. Everything works fine with Spotify besides it opening automatically and also it pulls up a message that tells me spotify is already running and I have to shut that as well.
Start->Run->msconfig->Startup Tab->Uncheck "spotify"and i think the other is spotify web helper-> Apply and you should be good to go.
I've done both--got rid of Spotify from the startup menu and checked the preferences within the program. Spotify still opens up after about three minutes. Any ideas? I'm using Windows 7, 64 bit.
Have the same problem. When will this be solved?

Hello Peter
No it's not working.
Here's a screendump of what Spotify's preferences looks like:
Running Windows 8, the msconfig just refers to Task Manager. Here's a screendump of what the Task Manager looks like (no more references to Spotify than these two):
I am trying to get some more help from the other community super users for you, hold tight.

Hi, I shrunk your images (very hard to read the topic with them ;)).
This is strange - I'm afraid I don't have much experience with Windows 8. What happens when you disable the toastify?

Ah of course 🙂
Thank you very much!
I have tried these options too, like those below. This goes beyond Windows 7. I have OSX 10.8.4 and it's done this since 10.8.2. There has to be some kind of bug to work out since the preferences are correct and it's still doing it. I actually have a powerful computer so for me it's really just an inconvenience, but it would be something else that's not immediately in my way. I figured this would be something that would be fixed in an update, provided enough people were having a problem to bring it to Spotify's attention. Thanks!

Having the same problem on only one of my usernames on my Mac. My personal account is fine, my school account consistently opens up despite ticking the option in the preference pane "don't open automatically."
Hi ! It has worked with Windows Vista but how we do that with Mac ???
