Removing Local Files from Song Library

Removing Local Files from Song Library

I saved some songs from my local file to my song library awhile back, but they are not available since they are no longer on my computer. Spotify disabled the function to add local files to song library since then, but the grayed out songs still show up in the library.

Unavailable songs that are no longer on streamable on Spotify have the option to remove from library. I cannot remove the unavailable local files songs in this fashion because the lack of the 'remove from Your Library' option. Please resolve this, thank you.

Hey @potoot, thanks for reaching the Community!

Please try the steps below, and see if that works for you:

After closing Spotify:

  • On Windows:

C:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Roaming\Spotify\Users\{Spotify username}-user".

Renaming that file to something like "local-files.bnk.backup"  and restarting Spotify should delete your "ghost" tracks..

  • On Mac:

/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Spotify/Users/username-user/local-files.bnk

If that doesn`t work for you, just delete the whole file: local-files.bnk

Hope to get this solved. If you need any further assistance, reply back here and we`ll troubleshoot this!

Happy new 2017 : )

Hey there

I have tried all of this but nothing worked.

The "ghost" files still appear on my computer and smartphone...

I cant delete them.

Thanks in advance

Hi, I am having this same issue. The track doesn't even appear on my computer, but on my phone it does appear as ghosted, but I don't have the option to do anything with it. Tried renaming the local-files.bnk with restarting Spotify but it didn't do anything. The playlist on my phone shows as waiting to download (even though everything else shows as downloaded), and I'm worried this is what's causing it and that it will drain my phone battery if it is constantly attempting to download while on Wifi.

im very confused... im on mac and i have no idea where to find this file
