My Question or Issue

Suddenly I'm unable to use spotify connect on my desktop and somehow I'm able to play 2 simultaneous music streams, 1 from my phone and 1 from my desktop whereas normally I could play only one across both devices. My spotify desktop account is just bugged and it doesn't sync with discord either to show my music in my status. Even last.fm doesnt read my scrobbles properly and is missing a lot of stuff

I've tried everything. Reinstalled on both devices. Gone offline for 10 minutes and turned off offline mode. Revoked all app permissions and even signed out of all my devices. It's like a new account at this point and yet I can't get the desktop app version to sync. It is also a premium account. Any help largely appreciated.

Hey there @konigzitrone,

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!

Can you try to clear any host files containing Spotify from your PC. Follow the instructions from this post here.

If after that the issue is still present, let us know if you can play music from the same account on the Desktop app and Web player simultaneously on the same computer.

We'll be on the lookout for your replies.

I followed all the instructions and I restarted my laptop and I'm still able to play music on the web player and the desktop app simultaneously. Only my phone app and web player are in sync. I want to clarify that I deleted the contents of my drivers\etc folder because I thought that some program had altered the files to allow malicious programs to run since my anti malware scan found some changes. So I created a new default hosts file so I don't think that is the issue here.

Hey @konigzitrone,

Thanks for getting back to us.

In this case it's a good idea to go ahead and secure your account using the instructions in this Support Page. Don't forget to change the password for any service associated with your account, such as your email address, Facebook, or Apple. We recommend that you use Sign out everywhere function once more. That should prompt a resynch with our servers.

You mention that you've reinstalled the app, just to be clear - did you use the steps here? They are more thorough and make sure that no leftover files remain. That would resolve any caching issues that might be causing this.

On another note - have you tried connecting your devices to a different internet network and checking if they synch up correctly then? If it works with another connection, it's a good idea to reset your router or contact the service provider of the original network for more information.

Hope this helps. Keep us posted on how it goes.

I already signed out of all devices in the hopes that it would reset my account and sync but to no luck. I also did entirely reinstall the app along with leftover files in appdata as well. I just connected to a new network and yet I was unable to see my laptop on the spotify connect section. I've tried almost everything at this point. I wish there was a way to see devices that were currently logged in and try to at least force sync them. Thanks for the replies btw!

Hey @konigzitrone,

Thanks for getting back to us.

Could you borrow a friend or family members account and see if the issue comes up there as well? If it doesn't we recommend that you create a new account here and use the steps here to transfer your music collection.

Keep us posted on things work out.

Tried a friend's account but I'm still able to play 2 streams simultaneously. Her phone didn't even show my laptop as a device in spotify connect. It appears to be solely the laptop app and how it's interacting with the spotify servers and discord.

Hey there @konigzitrone

Thanks for getting back in touch.

Just to confirm, is the app in Offline mode in the desktop app when you're able to stream simultaneously?

Also, would you mind sending us a screenshot of the Home screen on both desktop and web player?

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

No of course the desktop app isn't in offline mode. Otherwise I wouldn't bring up the fact that it fails to show my status on discord. Not only is the desktop account unable to use spotify connect. My entire account's recently played albums are bugged. As you can see from the screenshot of the Web Player, it is showing 2 albums. One is the Hitman soundtrack which has been stuck there for around 2 months. And it doesn't update properly.

Anyways here are the screenshots. Thanks for the quick responses! Even when I took these screenshots there were 2 streams playing simultaneously, 2 different songs as you can see.

Hey there @konigzitrone,

Thank you for your reply and for the screenshots.

Can you try to restart your router?

If that doesn't do the trick, can you let us know which version of the app you have?

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Take care!

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

I've actually tried that multiple times it didn't help at all. I've also tried on another network as mentioned before and it didn't work properly on that network either. Just seems to be my laptop on ANY network.

1.1.54.592.gc0b20638

I think that's the version number. Thank you for the help so far!

Hey again @konigzitrone,

Thank you for your reply and confirmation.

Can you let us know if you use the Microsoft store version or the version from our website?

Keep us posted 🙂

Cheers!

Currently I'm using the one from the Spotify website but I've tried the Windows store version and there wasn't a difference. I still wasn't able to use the spotify connect feature and my recently played was also broken.

Is there no way to force sync all my devices on your end?

Hi @konigzitrone,

Thanks for keeping in touch.

We're afraid it isn't possible to force sync your devices, as they should automatically sync across them.

Could you check your firewall and antivirus and make sure that Spotify doesn't have any restrictions?

If possible, could you try using a different laptop or PC under the same network to see if this behavior persists? This would help us narrow down the possible cause of the issue.

We'll be on the lookout.

I reset my firewall to defaults and still no changes. I tried on another system on the same network and it worked fine. So it appears to be THIS particular device on ANY network. Sorry for the late reply.

Hey again @konigzitrone,

Thank you for your reply .

Where you able to play two streams while you were on the other network as well? We know that you mentioned the device not showing up in the device picked, however this is expected if the devices are not on the same network.

It would also be great if you can let us know if you're using any work VPN or something like that?

Also, is the device a work device or a private device? It can be a software installed for extra protection/restrictions on work devices.

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Take care!

Let me explain the problem very clearly.

I have a main device that I use all day: MY Laptop that has been experiencing the problems for a while now.

On the laptop itself, when I use the web player and the app at the same time, I am able to play 2 different streams, But the web player and my phone sync up. So the web player, phone and any other device including my family member's laptop is recognized by spotify connect. But not MY laptop

To clarify, when I downloaded and logged into the spotify app on my family's laptop, I was able to play a song on MY laptop and that other laptop at the same time but couldn't play on my phone or web player since they were synced with the other laptop's app

So the problem is with MY laptop, not the network or my account apparently.

I do not use a VPN. It is a regular use laptop with minimal antivirus and firewall protection since I only use Windows Defender.

I use Google's DNS on MY laptop(8.8.8.8).

All devices were on the same network.

Hey @konigzitrone

Thanks for getting back in touch about this.

Could you check if all your PC's drivers are up-to-date?

Additionally, would you mind checking if the OS of your PC has any pending updates?

We'll be on the lookout for your reply 🙂

All my drivers are updated as far as I know. Are there any specific drivers I should maybe try reinstalling?

The only windows update I have is an optional package not really a major one.
