My Question or Issue

Whenever I try to play a song on Spotify web on Windows Firefox, the error message "Spotify can't play this right now" pops up and it does not play anything (except ads). It used to work perferctly fine, and I have never changed any of my computer / browser settings, but this problem started appearing intermittently ~12 months ago. Now it is completely unusable as it does it for every song. Every solution I have found online regarding this issue does not work for me. I have tried:

1. updating Firefox

2. disabling my Firefox extensions

3. clearing my cache/cookies

4. rebooting my computer

5. changing my sound settings in various ways

On the same computer, Spotify web on Chrome and on the Desktop app work. On my Mac computer, Spotify web on Firefox does work. However "change your browser / device" is not an acceptable "solution." I want to know why Spotify web on Windows Firefox does not work even though it is supposed to be supported.

Hey @mid-nighttiger,

Thanks for reaching out via the Community! We hope you don't mind that we've moved your thread to the Windows section of the Help board as it better fits here.

We appreciate you sharing what troubleshooting steps you've tried so far and it helps with the investigation.

Since this is happening on Firefox only on Windows, what comes to mind is to test if any of the following would make any difference:

  • If you're using a VPN please disable it (we advise against using VPNs in general).
  • Enable Widevine Content Decryption Module.
  • Allow Firefox to play DRM-controlled content.
  • Change your router's DNS settings to 8.8.8.8.

Lastly, could you ask a relative or a friend to log in to their account in Spotify's Web Player on Firefox to check if they'll see the same error message?

We'll be on the lookout for your response.
