My Question or Issue
The Spotify application is just a completely black screen, the only thing I can do to make it visible again is to re-install the entire program, and then it only works that one time. If I re-start Spotify after that it will go back to being black. It's been like this for several weeks now and it's really annoying.
Same. Always something. I'm so sick of it
Hi there folks,
Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!
Sorry to hear that your app is not working as expected.
We'd recommend running a clean reinstall of the app, following exactly this guide. Make sure you clear all app data and cache before reinstalling. This is a bit different than a normal reinstall.
You can also try downloading the app from our Website instead of the MS Store.
Apart from that let us know if you can play music from the Web player.
We'll be on the lookout for your replies.
Hey @sneakyfox,
Thanks for posting - we’re here to help!
If you still experience this after a clean reinstall it's also a good idea to check the hosts file on your PC for entries that need to be removed. Check out this help article on how to do that.
In case your offline contents keep disappearing it's possible you've encountered an Ongoing Issue that we're currently investigating. We suggest having a look at this thread and adding your vote by clicking on the +VOTE button. Make sure you follow the steps under Status Update as well.
It'll also be useful to Subscribe in the three-dots menu at the top right corner next to the title. That'll make sure you stay up-to-date with any relevant updates about this.
Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.
Hey ! @sneakyfox @Peachi
i have managed to solve the problem out!
related to the antivirus and firewall in the web/internet section.
ESET - made an exception for spotify and boom! spotify went back to work !
Hey @Amitperryp,
Thanks for keeping us in the loop!
We're happy to hear that adjusting your anti-virus and firewall settings got Spotify back to working as expected.
@sneakyfox @Peachi Let us know if you still experience this after trying out @Amitperryp's suggestion!
We'll look out for your reply.
Hey @sneakyfox,
Thanks for keeping us posted.
Did you have the chance to try out @Amitperryp's solution posted above? It seems that in some cases the antivirus software might cause such issues.
It's also worthwhile to check your host files for Spotify entries. Even though it was written for another topic, this page has instructions on how to do this.
If none of these steps does the trick - does this happen on other devices as well? We'd appreciate the make, model, OS version and exact Spotify version on all devices, where this is happening.
Let us also know if this started after a specific event, such as an update or installing a new app.
Keep is posted. We'll be on the lookout for your reply.
I have the same issue. I tried all the methods mentioned in the community page, including uninstall/reinstall via Spotify website download, hardware acceleration, antivirus/firewall exception. None of it works. Still having the blackscreen issue for nearly 3 months.
Hey @yjchyan,
Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community.
Sorry to hear that you haven't been able to use the Desktop app for so long.
First of all, make sure Spotify is added as an exception to any firewall and anti-virus software you're running. Try launching the app as Administrator.
Note that if your app is set to a language not using the standard roman alphabet, this might also be causing the issue. We've seen a couple of threads where users had reported that setting the app to English has fixed the issue.
You can have a look at the similar threads and some of the solutions other users have posted here and here.
Keep us in the loop on how you get on with this.
Heyo guys!
I found that searching 'Allow an app through Windows Firewall', scrolling down to spotify.exe, and checking both boxes fixed my problem.
Hope this helps!
