Stop the sync between devices

Stop the sync between devices

I want to prevent Spotify synchronizing between the devices I use. When I'm in the office of in the car I like to listen to certain songs, but while I'm at home on my desktop I want to listen to different sort of music.

Please do not suggest use playlists, because that is not a solution, but merely a workaround. There is no way I will remember at what song I stopped listening on my PC the day before, I just want to resume from where I left off without thinking about it. Thanks in advance

I just switched to TIDAL too, I will cancel my spotify premium accoun in a few minutes

Wow what a non-response. I am getting very sick of device sync like everyone else in this thread. Please get rid of this stupid feature or at least give us the option to disable it!

I was considering switching from Youtube premium to Spotify (more polished, more playlists, maybe better recommendations) but one of the main reasons (apart from some songs not available) preventing me from doing it is this specific issue. Maybe when Spotify will introduce this feature I will consider it.

I cannot stand the device syncing feature. Every single time one device starts playing the music from another device, it surprises and annoys me, and I start rage clicking or resort to disabling bluetooth.

Recent example: I put some calming music on for my dog who recently had a major surgery before I went to the store. When I turned on my car, my phone paired to CarPlay and automatically started playing the heavy metal workout playlist I had been listening to on my phone 5 days ago, but through the laptop in my house where my dog was, rather than through the car or the phone. Total mayhem. This feature is a great example of why consumers are so jaded with software companies.

Its been almost 4 years. Is this still not resolved?

I had this problem and it was solved by going to settings on the app on my phone and changing "Spotify Connect in Background" to off (default was On). Both devices are Android so YMMV. Good luck!

Yes, what you said

Yes - this messes up the audiobook I'm listening to on one device in the car when I start listening to music while working on my computer. Takes forever to search through all the chapters and sections to find my spot again. Very annoying. Just upvoted wanting to get a disconnect feature for this.

Where did you find the setting?
Cant seem to find it on the iphone app.

@Charlie:Go into the app Settings, then scroll down and tap Devices, the setting is in there.

Note: I have an Android phone, and I'm not using the app in English. But I hope this helps anyway.

EDIT: Okay, I just realized this setting doesn't help. I used Spotify during a long car trip two days ago. Now I wanted to continue with the same playlist on the drive back home, but as soon as I opened Spotify on my phone, the app synced with what I'm listening on the computer right now. We have more than 3k votes against this feature, and those clowns simply ignore it. I'm so fed up with this inept bunch.

This drives me nuts. I listen to podcasts on my commute but music while I work. I want to resume my podcasts after work right where I left off. If I dare to open Spotify on my phone while I’m working I lose the entire state of where I purposely left things.

Searched this because I swear I used to have this option?? The other day my daughter accidentally logged out of my account on the TV, logged back in and all was fine I thought. Until we get in the car and my phone jumps to the playlist she was listening to! We never listen at the same time, but I definitely don't want to have to move back to my playlist every morning. My daughter often puts her playlist on while getting ready for school, I have my long playlist in the car and don't want to have to keep trying to find where I was up to so I don't get repeats.

Hi,

This synchronization of devices is driving me nuts. Thankfully, I usually don't use Spotify on my phone, because then it would probably drive me nuts on a daily basis. But here's what happened yesterday:

I just had prepared a nice queue on my computer, 80 songs from the morning till the afternoon. But then I wanted to listen to an entirely different song through my earphones, using Spotify on my phone. I thought if I close the app on my computer, there will be no interference. Turns out I was wrong, after listening to that song on my phone, I re-opened the app on my computer, and gone was my entire queue that I just had spent time preparing. 😫

I saw the other thread, and apparently you completely ignore the fact that 3k+ people have backed the idea to disable the synchronization (or at least to give us the option to disable it!). I've been here for a while, so no surprise. But today, as I wanted to go outside, I happened to put in my earphones and tap them to start playback via the music player that I use. However, untypically for me, my phone was connected to the internet, which caused Spotify to start instead of my music player. As soon as I heard that song I listened to yesterday, I screamed in pain... but it was too late. I ran back to my computer, and once again my freshly prepared queue was gone, inexplicably erased by one song being played on my phone. WHAT THE ACUTUAL F***??? If I play a random song that's not in the queue on my computer, then this song is placed at the top of the queue, but the rest of the cue is not affected. Why does playing a song on my phone delete my entire queue on my computer?? Are your amazing functions that everyone hates specifically designed to make the user as furious as possible? This whole synchronization is complete BS, and it doesn't even work in any sensible way.

So here are two questions:

1. Can I do something to prevent the playback on my phone from deleting the queue on my computer?

2. Can I prevent Spotify from auto-starting if Internet is on and I tap my earphones? Or can I prevent Spotify from auto-starting no matter what? I just want to always open it manually on my phone. How can I do that?

Okay, someone transferred my thread into this thread. But now I'm afraid it won't be noticed...

Anyway, see posting above this one ⬆️⬆️⬆️

Has the syncing been fixed yet?  Work music and drive music are completely different things and I'm sick of it "helpfully" syncing my devices.

HELLO, can I at least get some help here? Or tell me there is no solution to my problems, then I won't wait.

This is not an official support channel. They are pretty good at ignoring whatever topics they don't like.

I know they are, that's why I keep bugging. I think posting issues here is still your best bet.
