Hello @asmuro, that's a good question!

There can be a couple of things (which I personally know about):

  • If you've used a Virtual Machine on your computer (or you've currently a virtual cd running)
  • If you have a USB in one of your slots
  • If you have a CD inserted in your computer
  • If you've installed a game or a program (with Daemon Tools) and it still running

As I said, it's a windows bug where CSRSS.EXE (Microsoft Client Server Subsystem) may attempt to locate media which don't exist.  Anyway, while it happens to some users, for some not. It mainly depends on your Windows version and the computer

For your other question, it'll not affect anything, just you'll not get this message again, if there is an actual error happening with a program, and you'll wonder why it's not running. But this is a rare thing, so I guess almost nobody will get this error for any program though : )

Still, making a regedit because Spotify can't trap the error and deal with it, is a) pretty bad on the part of users to mod their OS because b) Spotify released a desktop version with a bug. Advising people to turn off part of their OS settings because a company can't get it's act together is also pretty dubious. It's kind of like putting a bandaid over an infected wound so you can't "see it".

Sticking to web player until this is sorted out. Anyone actually reported the bug?

Hello @cerunnnos

I can't fully agree, since small part of the users experiencing this, it's maybe not a bug from Spotify after all, there are other similar Microsoft bugs with "There is No Disk in the drive"

I also running Windows, and the error didn't appear to me, so maybe it's related to a particular OS version or a few other things that may cause this, take a look at my above reply. + Sometimes it appears when an app or a program are outdated, so everyone can check for any updates of the app too.

For similar issue, check this article from Microsoft

It's not actually a modifying of their OS, they can change back the value to normal when they want, it does not affect their Windows in any way, it just stops the message from appearing.
