[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

I can't listen to Spotify around my kid ... Please add a filter to remove explicit songs so i can enjoy random songs with having to freak out everytime I hear a Nicki Manaj song.

I agree with all of these comments. It is pretty irresponsible for Spotify not to have a filter that can be turned on.  If the idea is for this to replace radio, which it can very well do, how is that supposed to work in a household with kids?

With the number of votes on this topic and how serious of an issue it is, I am surprised that nobody from Spotify has so much as responsed to indicate that they are hearing their users and plan to do something.

I bet most people who sign up don't expect to have profanity inadvertently and uncontrollably playing in order to use the service.

Oh well, I think I'll have to cancel my account.

Couldn't agree more. I'm no prude, but I often listen at work and it's wince-inducing to have the "f" word blasting out in an office setting - never know who's walking by the door.

The thing that astounds me is that Spotify staff don't even have the decency to respond to this thread. I could understand it if it was just on an MSN forum or so something, but this Forum is the official Spotify one, hosted by Spotify themselves, why do they even bother if they are not interested in responding.

This is a wonderful idea. In fact, it would be great if there was a feature where you could hide explicit songs enitrely.

I would love the option of cleaner versions.  I don't want to hear the 'f' word, especially when there is another version on itunes, amazon etc and I am paying for spotify.

I would LOVE to see an exclude explicit lyrics option in Spotify.  I have used Slacker Radio and Pandora as well but Spotify seems to have a lot more explicit songs then these other apps.  I prefer some of the features in Spotify and would like to continue using its services but would like to not worry about what lyrics my kids may hear.

Just checked:  Pandora and Slacker Radio both have options to exclude explicit lyrics... just saying.  I've been using Spotify since I don't have to unlock my phone to pause the songs but since it doesn't seem Spotify is responding to this forum and these other apps allow for cleaner stations, maybe we should just all use Pandor or Slacker Radio...

I won't pay for a product that I can't remove the explicit material.  It isn't professional to allow that explicit material out in the office environment.  The least to be done is to prevent the explicit material from playing.  The best would be to allow the radio edits to be played.  At this point, Spotify is not as good as Pandora.  Pandora has an option to prevent explicit material from being played.

I *love* spotify, but this is a seriously big flaw IMHO - seems like a lot of other music services provide this feature.
